September.17.2012 my labor story

posted 19th Nov
so i know im late on this but here is my labor story

I had been feeling energized all day and needed to get a few last min items before my due date so husband and I headed to the local Walmart. After shopping for a few min we stopped by the baby department to shop for a baby thermometer. I quickly got frustrated at how many there were to choose from and started to walk away. At 5:43 pm I kicked the box of beer my husband had placed on the floor and I guess from the way it made my legs move this huge gush of warm liquid started running down my leg. I was so embarrassed and turned to my husband and asked if he was ready to go check out. He asked me why and I said because I think we need to go to the hospital either my water just broke or I had just peed myself.
2 days before at my ob apt the dr had said that i could wait about 2 hour after my water breaks before I go into the hospital so from Walmart we headed back home where i took a shower and shaved my legs. This is where I realized that I only had one pair of pants that fit and I just had my water break in them   so armed with the diaper bag, car seat, and my husbands basketball shorts on we headed off to have our baby. oh and fyi I had downloaded an app to time my contractions and they were 2 min apart lasting 40 seconds but they didn't hurt much.
I got to the hospital at 7:45pm and when I told the nurses that my water had broken the looked skeptical and didn't believe me. I had already filled up 2 over night pads and every time I moved more gushing would follow. They had me change and use the bathroom and when i laid down on the bed the nurse checked my cervix and I was already at a 6 and completely effaced. I had planed on a natural birth with no medication but my nurse would not listen to this and started me on pitocin because my contractions were not coming fast enough for her. Quickly after I decided to get some pain medication threw my iv but it was rather counter productive with the pitocin running, and only made me drowsy and fall asleep between contractions that were every few seconds. Around 2am I decided to go ahead and get the epidural. Unknown to me I was already at a 9 but the nurse was tired of my hollering apparently. After the dr had started the epidural I don't remember much but my husband said that I passed out before he even finished telling me what to expect after the second poke. I woke up about 3 hours later nicely refreshed and in no pain at all. The nurse came in and checked me, I was still at a 9. The whole reason I didn't want the epidural was because it slows down labor..but not being in pain was so worth the 3 hour nap lol.
30 min later the nurse checked me again and offered to do some practice pushes. After one "practice" push she yelled at me to stop and ran for the dr. Apparently the baby was already partially threw the birth canal and on her way to meet her mommy and daddy. The dr came rushing in and after pushing for 3 counts she asked if I could do another one. Being in NO pain I said "sure lets do this" and at 5:43am on September 17 my purple gupey baby girl was placed on my chest at 8.4lbs and 21 1/4 in long. I did it!!! I was sure that something would go wrong and I would need a c-section and all this dramatic stuff would happen, but she got here safe and sound and after a bath turned her beautiful pinkish baby color.
After a few hours the nurses came in to move me to recovery but a bathroom trip was required. I guess baby Ali Renea was sitting on my bladder for my entire last trimester because I literally peed for 30 min straight, and yes the nurses timed me.
My baby girl is now 2 months old and ebf. She keeps me very busy but is so worth all the pregnancy woes. She is my little blessing

Mine was 24 hours long, after being up the previous 24 hours. An hour and a half of pushing. IV meds didnt help, epidural did for like 2 hours then I felt like I was gonna smurf the baby out. Worst pain ever and it was all in my ass.

wow 24 hours!?!
my daughter pretty much came out on her own. the nurse kept looking at the computer to see when my contractions were and i kept telling them before they came that the "pressure" was moving down on her own. Makes sense now seeing how nosy my daughter is, 2 months old and she has to be up in everybody's business lol

My daughter I went in on a Monday at 4pm. Got set up with Pitocin and at 1am my water broke. at 8 am I got my epidural (I was only 2 cm) then 9:45am started pushing. She came out at 10:12am 5lbs. 15oz. 19 3/4 in long. She was easy as pie and vaginal. My son on the other hand had other ideas. He was born 1 week early because I could no longer stand up and walk, I wouldn't be able to make it to the bathroom so I would soil myself and end up changing clothes a few times a day. Got to the hospital around 10pm. Got hooked up on Pitocin. around 10am I got my epidural and I was 3cm. Around 4:30 his heart rate was going down so they turned the Pitocin off. His heart rate went normal. I was 5cm. Then they turned the Pitocin on again and in 5 minutes they rushed in because his heart rate went way down. I was 8cm with a little bit of cervix left. I was pushing a little to see if the cervix would move but it wouldn't The doctor said it's time for a c-section. So went back to the O.R. got more epidural meds to completely numb me and at 5:17pm I had my son with the cord wrapped around his neck 1 time. A healthy 6lb. 11oz, 18 1/2 in long baby boy. I knew he was going to be trouble lol But I love him and my daughter so much.
