Night terrors.

Anyone have an infant suffering from night terrors?

What do you do to help them?

my son is 18 months old and has had them since he was just a couple months old, there is not really anything you can do all though their eyes are open they are not awake so until the terror passes and they come to there is just not much you can do. with my son when he is having them he doesnt know who we are if we go in and talk to him or pick him up he pushes away and just screams and cries more, when he does come out of it we pick him up and hold him and i bring him to bed with me and that usually helps.

How old? My son began going through them at thirteen months. It took us a solid month to even figur out what was going on..
While the terrors were happening we made sure to be as quiet as possibl and to not go near him.. We would just peak in his room to make sure he was okay.
To get them to stop We turned the tv off over an hour before bed and made sure we had a full hour of quiet time to help relax his mind.. We read books and gave him sleepy time tea. I also had to make sure that he was getting plenty of rest and a nap everyday so that his mind had plenty of time to rest.

Honestly there really is nothing you can do. I know it is scary but try not to wake him/her up. Most of the time, babies won't remember it, and are actually in a deep stage of sleep even though their eyes are open. If you wake them up, they can get really confused and scared kicking you away, hitting, or biting. I know it sucks SO bad, but for now just sit next to LO and try something soothing, like singing softly or gently rubbing his/her back.

Hes 7 months, been having them since he was at least 3 months. We didn't know what they were either, just figured he was hungry, gave him boob and he would go back to sleep. But there's been twice now that he just bawled and bawled. Last night and one other time I offered boob and he just cried to my boob. Its a terrified cry, not a hurt cry. Last night its like me an SO weren't even there.

I know there's nothing you can really do during one, but I try to get him to nap more during the day and it doesnt seem to help.

my son started getting them around 10 months.. not much i could do at that young age but rock and console them, rub their backs. as he got older my tactic would change. they say dont wake them but i found it easier to get him out of bed, turn on the light and walk around til he came back to reality

I was really debating taking him out to the living room into the light.

you can try different things, and just see what works best with your LO

Oh that would scare me.. And that's so confusing with a three month old.. I would have had no idea. I figured out what it was with my son on here.. I never even knew there was such thing as terrors versus nightmares.. But my son would look right at me but kind of through me if that makes sense. He would scream mamamama but screamed harder if I touched him. At first they started with him sleep walking and screaming.. Scared the crap out of my husband and I. It took a solid month to get them to stop, but there isn't anything you can physically do for them while they are going through it.. We had to begin locking our sons door and putting the baby monitor back in there.

Try giving him baths before bed, something that helps soothe him and isn't making his mind work?. They can be triggered from an over active imagination, stress, sleep deprivation..
