did any of you drive yourself to the hospital?

posted 19th Nov
Just curious, did any of you drive yourself to the hospital in labor? My DH works a long way from home, and a lot of the time he is in an area without cell service.
My hospital is over an hour drive, and DH is anywhere between an hour to 2 hours from home while working.

Did you drive yourself? Is it safe to do?

Hell no. Contractions a minute an a half apart..

Do you have any family members or friends close that could drive you?

I have drove myself every time except when my water broke with my 2nd. My contractions were not too bad though otherwise I would of had someone else take me. By the time I got to the hospital they were picking up.

I didn't, don't think I could of, but then again I was 9-10 cm when I got to the hospital

I guess if they got timetable but not bad I'd drive to the hospital and walk around there ad see if they got closer, I wouldn't want to chance it

I did during preterm labor, I was having contractions 2-3 mins apart. However I was only 5 mins away from the hospital.

safe? An hour drive!! Depends on how long you wait when in actual la and how fast it progresses! Do, you have a friend relative to stay w/ you just in case? I drove myself w/ baby #8 but am 10 minutes away!

I agree with this. With Addy, I was 6cm when we got to the hospital and with Asher I was 8cm. By then though, there was no driving myself. lol Luckily hubs wasn't at work both times.

While in very very early active labor I had to drive from my doctor to my house to meet my husband, my water broke at a doctor's appointment when I was getting up from a non-stress test.

My husbands family is around sometimes. They are always running around out of town, but they live close. So if they are out of town, they wouldn't be able to. If they are in town when I go in they would most likely take me. I have one friend, but she has 4 kids and not enough room in her vehicle for any more people. IDK. I am hoping I go into labor when DH is home.

I wouldnt.

My friends husband worked far away, too. I went and stayed with her for a couple weeks by her due date. There would be no way she could have drove. Luckily, her husband made it home in time and I didnt have to drive her. However, I would really get in touch with a trusted friend or family member close by.

If nothing else, call an ambulance to transport you.

I drove myself with my first, DH was drunk and didn't believe I was in labor lol. I was 4cm. With my second I took the subway since it was only like 4 stops and faster than driving. Also at 4 cm.

The midwife wants me to leave when contractions are 10 min apart due to the drive. How far apart do they normally start? I had a fast labor with my oldest, but it was induced.

I did for preterm labor any any time I THOUGHT I needed to go. I was induced with both, so never actually had to deal with that part

public transportation isn't available where I live. So if no one is around in time, it's either drive myself or ambulance.
