I'd alternate years. I think it's fair.

Alternate years... he's right though, it's not fair to always go to your parents first... which I understand she has to work so I do understand your reasoning but you have to think of his side too. Alternating years will just make your life less stressful.

I'm with the others... alternate years.

It would be super convenient if one family could do lunch at like 12 and then the other family could do like a dinner at 4 or 5.

Lol neither of our families are very big on Thanksgiving but for Christmas we have to go to 6 different places in 3 days. Luckily it all falls to where each day we have a lunch and then a dinner

Is there a reason the in laws HAS to be at 2 also? Could your parents do a lunch at one and then your in-laws do a dinner?
We had this problem our first thanksgiving together and I talked to my MIL, explained why my mom had to do a lunch (also because of work) and she changed hers to dinner. No biggie.

If not, I agree with alternating.

I agree, alternate years. We got tired of going to 2 thanksgiving dinners in the same night. This year I'm actually having dinner at my inlaws on Thursday and dinner with my parents on Saturday.

This is what I think too, try to suggest changing the times, both families, or do alternate years

this is probably the least of your problems if you cant figure this out when it only happens twice a year. You can alternate years. If your mom has to be at work at 8 why cant you go to his family's house at 2 and leave at 4 or so and go to your family. Its not fair, he is right. IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL!! just take turns and compromise like grown ups.
