Is this common?

I didn't think my son would start smiling randomly and laughing this early. I know he should be smiling when I smile/talk at him now, but I thought that smiling spontaneously and laughing came later on usually? He's almost 6 weeks.

I don't know, but he's seriously laying in his Pack n' Play right now staring at the side of it and laughing his butt off..he just made my day. (:

Smiling and laughing usually occur between 6 weeks and 3 months, so I would say that he is right on target.
