re: castor oil

posted 19th Nov
My daughter was born 1 day before she was 38 weeks. She had to be in the hospital for 2 weeks because her lungs were under developed. I thought I was "full term" because they consider that at 37 weeks, so I wasn't worried. Now I'm pregnant again and I'm hoping to make it all the way to 40 weeks so we don't have to go through all that worry again.

Sweetie, you still have 3 weeks left. I know it's hard to be patient, but you need to try. It's not safe to "naturally induce" labor. You need to wait. And if you're hell-bent on taking Castor Oil, you NEED to talk to your doctor first and you NEED to be monitored. Chances are, your doctor (who went to medical school) will NOT recommend it. At least not until you're overdue. The last few weeks are important, so let your baby bake and stop being stupid.

37 weeks is NOT full-term, just so you know. And just because the baby could be fine at 37 weeks (which is term), doesn't mean it will be, especially if you're FORCING it out.

I have taken castor oil with my first boy and he was fine!! other members off my family also took it.. and with my second baby i was induced at 36 weeks so your baby will be fine if came now.. speak to your doc about inducing you if your really unhappy you never know they might just start you and good luck i know how you feel its not nice

Just because she reaches 37 weeks does that magically mean baby will be fine. There are babies born at 40 weeks that need to be in the NICU.

I tried castor oil after discussing it with my doctor and nothing happened other than a few contractions. You can't make your water break but you can try walking, sex, EPO to soften the cervix so that your labor can progress. Good luck mama if little man isn't out by 39 weeks I'll be induced so one more week to go.

ya i would agree.. ignore a lot of people on here.. not the time to stress u out.. my twins were born at 37 weeks (perfectly healthy) and reading on here.. there's several people on this site that are being induced 2-3 weeks early with twins and singles to accomodate doctor's vacation schedules around the holidays...

So when you say you are 37 weeks/5days, that seems to be consistent w/ when a lot of inductions are happening are scheduled to happen.. so don't freak out by what people are saying. I know you are anxious for your baby bc I am too.. I was also talking to someone yesterday who also did the oil, and was in the labor a few hours later.. I'm pretty sure your baby isn't ready, and when he is, you will know.

I didnt go thru any labor with any of my prior pregs so I dont have answers for you... csection on twins, and vbac for daughter (and they broke my water and i had her in an hour)..

Amazing. I was not aware that ALL babies born at 37 weeks are perfectly fine. My daughter was born at 37 weeks 6 days and she had to stay in the hospital on oxygen and had to be fed through an IV because her lungs weren't completely developed. If my doctor tried to induce me before I was well overdue, I'd say no. The last couple of weeks of pregnancy are important. Don't assume your baby will be fine just because you are "close enough." Most are, but not always.

99% is what I read at 36wks..always exceptions but theres a girl on here due dec 18with twins and is being induced exactly at 37wks at the end of November .so obviously the dr is pretty confident given the expoaure for malpractice. not sure y.. I wudnt do it myself either.. but I wouldn't excessively worry myself about it. Also I notice expecially with those of us due at Christmas alot of people are also being induced bc of their doctor's vacation schedule... to me also not willing to do it but obviously your situation (oxygen) is rare even given all the other posts on here. But yes 37weeks is full term for twins so not sure why a single baby would be any diff. That was my dr one and only goal was to get me to 37. I have twins born at 37 and were 100% developed

There is no reason to freak this girl out or be rude. She probably alrwady turned off notifications. And I myself decided to read up on the castor oil and depending on what article u read u get a different opinion.

Ya some babies
Come born at 37 weeks naturally, but forcing birth is not something i would recomend, if ur doctor wanted the baby to be born before his due date you would either be schedualed for induction, shame on you for doing that to ur baby!
