posted 18th Nov
My friend just had a baby and hes wondering typically how much breast milk should a new born have? Shes 2 days. The DR told him/them 20ml.. and he thinks thats not enough.

Is she not nursing? NBs dont need much bm at all. Just feed them what they want. But she really should be nursing the baby it will help her supply.

She doesn't need a clock. Her baby will tell her when she needs to eat. Just tell her to let the baby nurse on demand. Babies don't run by a clock. They run by body signals and cues. Yes she hold offer often but let baby eat as much or as long as he/she wants

Tell her to ask for a lactation consultant. Drs are dumb sometimes when it comes to Bfing.

my daughter only fed 5 minutes at a time as a newbie and she grew fine.

the amount of time doesnt indicate how much baby is getting

Time and ounces are irrelevantthe when nursing. Wet diapers and how the baby is acting is what's important.
