I used to prefer Food Network - I still really enjoy things like the Iron Chef competitions and the new series of Iron Chef - but all these new resturaunt shows are irking me! I've been finding myself on The Cooking Channel A LOT lately, the one thing they lack is Paula Deen, though and I love me some Paula Deen.

It's food porn for me right now - I can't eat, so I watch other people make things that look awesome.....I'm a masochist.

it depends on my mood.

Do I want to watch a bunch of foodies OR do I want to watch regular old cooking shows.

Do I need recipes or idea's OR do I just need to be entertained while being reminded how poor I am?

I have a list of places I need to eat at alphabetized by location, type and price.
I also have a list of recipes I need to try when money isn't a factor.

So it really all depends on what list I feel like adding to.

This is kind of what I do, too. Since moving closer to Atlanta, I can actually go to some of the places they talk about - and you're right, The Cooking Channel tends to be more nose-in-the-air foodies (which is ok with me) and Food Network feels more down home. I wish Food Network would get back Sunny Anderson and The Neelys, I guess the only one I can't stand on Food Network is Giada - she irks the ever living crap out of me.

I hated both sunny and the neely's. something very off putting on both of them.

No!!! I loved the Neelys because they seemed very real - they cooked in their own home, they were a couple and you could tell they really loved it each other, I liked it, it reminded me of when my SO and I cook together.

I liked Sunny because she looked like she enjoyed her job - thin female chefs irk me.

the neely's just felt sorta rich ghetto to me. Too many "oooh girl!" and ugh. I felt like they were going to eat each other's face for the last drop of BBQ sauce.

Sunny was just waaaay too chipper for me some days. Much better than the neely's and her recipes looked easy and delicious, but waaaay too happy about french toast.

Ah, yeah - they were kind of like that. I remember one time he like....licked something off her face, it was weird.

What I liked about Sunny was basically what you said - her meals didn't seem over the top or really difficult and her ingredients seemed accessible.

Wanna know who irks the crap outta me? Ina Garten! What's weird about her is that she's all ritzy and stuck up in her Hamptons using ridiculously expensive ingredients but she always looks like hell! You would think someone like that would make an effort.....

well, she grew up rich, so you kinda expect that. I used to love Ina because she was all rich, but she made easy things like chicken salad look fantastic! That was until she denied a dying kid an afternoon cooking with her. Now I hate her too.
