Labor at 36 weeks?

posted 18th Nov
So while I wouldn't try to start labor right now (I'm 36 weeks and 3 days) I just have a feeling that it's coming. I just feel exactly like I did before going into labor with DS. It could all be in my head, but I'm had an increase in discharge, multiple BMs, I'm fairly certain a lost a piece of my mucus plug the other day, I think he's dropped and it's made walking awkward, and more BH and cramping than before. Just judging what happened with DS, it's close.
So, I'm not quite term and wondering what possible problems that would cause. The only thing I've really found is the baby is more likely to have jaundice.

I had DS at 36 weeks, he was in the nicu for a little over 24 hours to be on oxygen and had jaundice for a few weeks. Other than being really tiny he was actually pretty healthy.

It's hard to say, really. Typically, babies are fine once they reach term, but there are exceptions to every rule. They could have trouble regulating their temp or blood sugar. Or breathing issues. I had a 39 weeker and she spent 5 days in the NICU due to breathing issues (she had a collapsed lung at birth). You just never know what can happen.

Baby may also have some breathing problems. I read in the 36th week, is usually when the organs are being finalized. Not sure exactly how severe it would be, but probably not too bad since you are so close to being term.

My friend delivered at 36 and 4 days and her son had a little bit of breathing trouble. He was in the nicu for 72 hours and then was able to come home. Another friend had hers at 36 and 2 days and he had trouble eating and jaundice. I think it was 2-3 days he was in the nicu.

Everything could be totally fine too. They were both induced for medical reasons but if you go into labor spontaneously then I would think there is less risk since it happened naturally.

It could really go either way. Long term, there won't be any issues. Short term, he/she might end up spending a couple of days in the NICU. My youngest spent 3 days in the NICU because I ended up being earlier than expected and I was induced early anyway due to medical stuff. He needed help keeping his blood sugar up, his temp regulated, and a little breathing assistance to get him started. He was extra jaundice, but he never needed to go under the lights. I was just told to take him outside for a while which seemed to do the trick. I did have to keep taking him back for bloodwork for 3 or 4 days after i had him home though. Overall, it wasn't a huge deal and he's healthy now.

Its really hard to tell. Some babies do just fine other don't. My son was born at 36 weeks 5 days with no complications at all . Perfectly healthy just smaller then my other babies. However other i have meet who have had there's around the same time spent time in the NICU and had complications so you never really know. Just like if you have a full term baby they can still end up sick . There's just a higher chance at 36 weeks.
