Student loans?

posted 18th Nov
I have applied for Phoenix online school and now im waiting to get started in my classes after fafsa and loans go through they told me that when i receive my loans i can buy a new computer because mine has problems on and off which would become a problem if it crashed while i needed to do school work. I was just wondering how long does it take to get the student loans after you get set up in an online school. I am not just trying to get loan money, i am trying to get back into school so i can have more stability in my household for my son. Im not sure how long my computer can last its been having a lot of errors. Anyone know how the whole student loans works?

From my experience, you have to wait for the school to receive the loan money and then the school will send you any extra money left over. It took about 6 weeks from the beginning of classes where I was attending school.

Will student loans even cover all of Phoenix?

Usually my refund checks come a couple weeks into the school year. They want to make sure you're not going to drop. So usually after the drop/add period. But UofP classes are shorter so idk how long it takes. Its been awhile since SO went there so I dont remember how long it took.

It depends, if you have very low income and dependents then there is a good chance with student loans and the pell grant there would be left over money.

Oh okay... I thought Phoenix was expensive. I have a friend doing an online school and even with the max of pell and max of student loans, she still has to pay around 500 a semester!!

Yeah my pell grant covers half of the tuition and loans will cover the other half and other school expenses. Leaving room for me to get a new computer and cover phone and internet bills (School told me they were needed for school, phone because they call weekly to make sure your doing okay and not gonna just give up because your having trouble) Thanks for all the replies

Yeah, I looked into it a few years ago and it was like 10k a year, the most I have ever been able to receive was 3500 a year, and it is probably even more expensive now. I have heard of a couple people I sorta know going just for the money, so maybe there is a loop hole somewhere. The people who I was told are going for money both have a lot of kids, one is my age (24) and has 6 kids and doesn't work, so I can imagine that would get you a pretty decent amount of money.

So did I, the one time I qualified. haha. I didn't think about the subsidized and unsubsidized. I was thinking about starting back at the school she's going to, and I looked into it, and couldn't afford it. She might have only gotten one of them though.

Yikes with having 6 kids! Yeah she's single, no kids, so that may have something to do with it, too. I can't remember if she said her classes are 7500 or 9500 a quarter, but she only has 1 class each 5 weeks, then another class the next 5 weeks.

That is really crazy, that is more than the major universities around here charge, including Ohio state.

Maybe because it's out of state? She said her classes & books, etc for each class usually is exactly 1792. But since her classes change every 5 weeks, she has way more classes that normal.

That's odd. We only have one kid and don't claim each other and have always gotten good refund checks. Yeah it's gonnasuck paying it back haha. But at least some is pell grant.

In the last year I turned 24, got married and had my first child so I am hoping that next year i will qualify for a good amount of money. Before I had to claim my income which was about 20k a year plus my parents income so I was getting basically nothing. I haven't worked since March so my income this year is way less but my husband makes okay money, but I think I will still qualify for much more than before plus now I get the pell grant.
