they can't ethically diagnose a personality disorder until a person is over 18. they can't tell how much is immaturity and how much is personality which is still able to be changed at this point in his life.
sounds more like adhd especially since it started before the age of 7.

Thanks for this post because I am going through alot of the same things with my son,as time goes by he has gotten more violent, yes he has evern swung on me and he is only 9, will be 10 in 2 days and yes, I have called the police on him a few times and one said that they would send him to a juvie dh in Bowling Green if he does anything else wrong again yea right becus the next cop just said to me taht with his age it would be very hard to get our judge to do anything with him, he was placed on house arrest w/o an ankle monitor and he was like"I don't get the cool bracelet " He can't always seem to accept & respect any type of authority, poor grades, anger and behavioral issues, doesn't care abt. learning, can treat one lil sister like a princess but yet act as if he hates the other one, he hasran away from a locked down scholl and made it home b4 anyone noticed him gone& was expelled from the only elementary school in our town besides the private catholic one that I can't afford so I had to home school him for the rest of the year. It is all about him. And it has seem to come out very slowly in the past couple of years, last year he had a awesome teacher who worked with him and this years teacher and him did nothing but butt heads everyday it seemed until he was finally expelled only after about 5 oss every 2 weeksand a few iss but i just wrote it off as anger issues with the negative that has happened in his life, my leaving my ex~fiance` amongs other things. I AM DEFENTILY checking into more of this. Keep me updated if you would please.

My son has been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD, and this sounds about right. He's only 7, but he's been kicked out of schools since he was 3. He's not very aggressive, but very emotional. If we tell him something he doesn't want to hear he'll freak out and throw a fit yelling about how nobody loves him and everyone's against him, and we just don't want him to be happy. He blew up at the principal once screaming at her that she had me under her control and she was mind controlling me, because I agreed with her. He's been on meds for a year, and slowly I'm seeing a difference. It's taken a while to adjust his meds, but we have noticed that things are changing. Currently though, he's undergoing evaluation for asbergers syndrome. I do think your brother has some issues that need to be dealt with and your mom has to accept that he needs help. Besides his meds, he goes to see a therapist for behavior modification for his ODD, he sees a psychiatrist for his emotional outbursts, and we have monthly ADHD parent support groups. It's alot of work, but hopefully we'll beable to teach him how to deal with his emotions andanger in a positive way. Good luck to you guys, you have a long road ahead.

my son is currently undergoing evaluation for asbergers as well. With the meds, nothing is overnight. The body has to adjust to them and they usually start kids at a very low dose and increase it every month until there is improvement. That's how they've done my sons adhd meds. It's taken us over a year and it's just now seeming to work. He's able to concentrate on something more than 5 minutes at least.

Does your brother have an IEP? If not, than his school is NOT doing it's job. No matter what the doctors say, the SCHOOL should have long ago noticed that 1) he can't make it in school and 2) they need to take action.

Typically, a kid whose behavior or emotional outbursts keep them from being successful in school should be evaluated by your district's version of a Child Study Team - the school psych, social worker, nurse, reg. ed. teachers, sped teachers, and the parent and even anyone the parent wants to bring in.

Then an IEP should be written to address how the district can work to improve school performance. Once the IEP is in place it also serves as protection - kids on IEP's are federally limited to 10 days of suspension without a re-evaluation or an alternative setting.

I work at an alternative placement - we get kids that sound just like your brother. They get shortened days, small classes, and lots of one-on-one. The changes in behavior I see from their first day to their last is generally phenomonal.

AGAIN - that kid should be on an IEP and if he's NOT - that school district is freaking negligent!!!!!

Wow,, you certainly have your hands full..... A friends son had ADHD, he was put on meds and in about a week they saw an improvement,, but if for some reason he didnt take it, the result was almost immediate, he would be sent home from school because they couldnt cope with him,,,,,
I mean its good that they have not given him meds' that are too strong for him, but I know along with everything its along process,, but you must be going insane trying to get him the help he needs..............

yeah, it's a battle. We go to one place then they send us to another, it's been like this since he was 3. We have really great insurance now though, so that's been the biggest difference for us. Some mornings I spend on the phone booking appts and stuff, but it's really worth it. And yeah there's times (even with his meds) when I have to get him from school, because he refuses to eat lunch or he won't come out from under his desk. We were blessed this year though with a really understanding school, who has tried to help any way they can.
