Tell me what I need to know about implanon...

posted 18th Nov
I am 21 years old. I have an almost 11 month old son. I have irregular periods (have had 2 since 2010, including months I was pregnant).
I have no intentions of getting pregnant until at least a year settled into my career choice supposing I can make it through college which I start in January and that puts me at about 4 years. I am bipolar, have anxiety issues and am a smoker (though I would like to quit for a New Years resolution) I am on the pill. I don't like a daily dose. I have been on the depo and HATED it.
Would you recommend it for me? What's your experiences with it?

They told me when I was looking into getting the implanon that I'd have to have two rounds of Depo Provera shots before they'd insert it, because the hormones are so similar.
I hated Depo Provera, so I said eff that.

My midwife suggested I get it since I did well on the Depo. She said most women that hated the depo will hate the Implanon.

I was on implanon from 16 to 19. Got off. Me and my fiance concieved 17 months after I got off. I got right back on it as soon as I had her. I love it. For the first 6 months I had irregular periods but after that they just completely went away which was great. No mood swings or any types of issues. Its been about 3 months since I have just gotten back on it and its going the same way it did when I first had it. the first 6 months are frustrating with the spotting but no serious side effects that I have experienced. And it is good for 3 years!

What you need to know about Implanon... It blows. I hated it. Look up the side effects & I had them all. I took that thing out ASAP.

Ahh smurf. Idk what to be on. *bangs head on desk* was hoping to find a good option for birth control before I went to the gyn because I don't want to have options thrown at me, decide on one after research and make an appointment to get on said bc. Won't say I'm in a hurry per se but I'm off bc and abstaining and as you can see by me having an 10 month old that worked well in the past. Any suggestions otherwise for another bc?

I like Nuva Ring. Put it in (Simple as all get out), leave it in three weeks, take it out a week, put a new one in.
Been on it over two years, a year before my son was born and a little over a year this time. Love it still.

This is what I have now. Its not bad. Not my cup of tea that's why I'm switching to the implanon.

OP have you thought about maybe an IUD like Mirena or Paraguard?

Kinda. I know chances aren't high for it but I have heard about it piercing through the uterus and that scares the living day lights out of me. Otherwise I'd go for it. I need to weigh my options...

I did fine on the Depo shot before but this was before i had my son...
The implanon made me bleed and bleed and bleed and just sucked the life outta me. The only time i would stop was when they'd give me a second birth control to double on to get the bleeding under control. After i'd stop that second birth control i'd be right back to bleeding again.

My experience was horrible but everyone is different.

Woo Nuva ring FTW!
I've been on the pill, depo shot, Nuva Ring, and Mirena and Nuva Ring is by far my favorite. The Mirena didn't have the right hormones to control my ovarian cysts and I had one to rupture (Holy smurf, that hurt), and it also started to fall out after about 8 months.
