Throwing food WWYD *poll*

posted 18th Nov
DD is 15 months actual/12 adjusted (almost 16/13). She has been throwing food whether or not she is done. Right now I don't react, I just ignore it. But how should I approach this and at what age?

She's not a good eater to begin with, shes not throwing it to the cat or watching it fall, she just puts it to the side while watching me and let's go and comes back for more to drop.

When she starts throwing the food, take it away.
My son did the same thing and after we took it away a few times, he stopped throwing it and dropping it off the side of his high chair. It was right about the same age too, it's a phase lol.

My 15 month old does that too. First I tell him not to throw his food, and explain why. Then I give him a little toy to play with instead of playing with his food. That usually works. But if that doesn't work, and ignoring it doesn't work, I would just take it away.

Did you give it back after a minute or so?

Id start feeding her myself again... Maks started throwing food so now I feed him *14 months*

Once in a while I'll give him something when its not to messy, and he will eat instead of throwing, if he starts tossing stuff I take it away and feed him again.

I'm no help. DD started that at 13 months because when she's at grandmas (my moms) she sees them throw food to the dogs. When she does it at home she would do it and then call the dogs name. We have worked on redirecting, telling "no" and then taking her plate away. She is nowhere near as bad as she was but she still does it at 18 months. Drives me insane!!

If he was still hungry, yes. But the moment he started dropping it or throwing it, I took it away again. Eventually he learned that if he threw or dropped it, I'd take it away and it'd delay him getting the food he wanted when he wanted it.

Feeding her myself isn't an option. She has serious feeding issues and we have discovered that when she feeds herself it is much more successful, minus the food throwing of course lol.

Luckily for me she has yet to notice the cat devouring what she throws overboard.

I think I'm going to try this and see what happens. Because she doesn't really like food I don't know if it'll work but I think it's worth a shot since ignoring it hasn't been working.

My son is a picky eater too. At first we just thought he wasn't real big into eating but we tried different dishes and started to notice he showed favoritism towards pasta and sauce with no meat, than to meat dishes like we usually cooked.
