Pet Poll....;0)

posted 18th Nov
My boys are 4 and 6 and my husband and I would like to get them a little pet for Christmas. We were thinking a Beta fish (or 2) or a turtle. Something low maintenance.   What do you think?
(We already have a dog and where we live we are only allowed one dog or cat.....so, another dog or cat wouldn't work.)

I voted beta fish. If you get 2 don't keep them in the same bowl.

Turtles are stinky. Had one when I was a kid and you have to clean their cages often to keep the smell down. IMO not low maintenance.

Betta fish is a good call (ours is really resilient), but I'd also look into these mini frogs, they are very low maintenance and really cool.

I would say maybe a gerbil/hamster or something along those lines but I don't know if you can have it or if you'd want it since it does take a little more to maintain.

Yeah they smell really bad , I had one and had cleaned the tank twice a week. Plus you have make sure they wash there hands every time they touch them. Especially because you can get Samna from them.

I vote Guinea Pig.. or the fish   Turtles aren't low maintenance. They smell so you have to keep them clean constantly. And you have to be really really sure the kids wash their hands after touching it.

My LO has a betta fish. Those things are tough!
I didn't expect it to live so long. January 1st will be one year. If his fish makes it a year, I'm going to go out and buy it a nice proper home with a filter and heater (It's living in a large bowl at the moment)

Hamsters and guinea pigs aren't low maintenance either and they smell. Definitely go with the fish.
