Where I get Oar is the Aur in the beginning of the name. I automatically think Aura.

Your name has precedent too... it's not "made up" either. And names like "Trey" are not "Tree" LOL. I don't get it.

My name is Ceilidh HAHAHA (gaelic) and it gets butchered too. I am super understanding of this! I don't mind correcting people who are not familiar with it, but even my in laws can say it now!! I really, really feel like if they can understand "dh" is silent and ei can have an "ay" sound, why the hell can't the lesser Raylee be picked up? My own family has no excuse at all either. None.

People seeing the name for the first time -- gotcha! You're struggling. It's okay. I grew up saying my name over and over. I learned to speak up for myself. If she wants to go by Rosie later, fine. Or even only in certain circles to make it easier, okay. I've been there. My family has been through this smurf with me and I can't believe they are not putting effort into this!

I know the origin of the name, maybe that has something to do with it? Lol

I wouldn't change the spelling. It doesn't help. "Auralia" looks to me like it's pronounced "Aw-RAHL-yah".

I'm thinking it might get to the point where you just lose your smurf on someone lol. My mother wanted to call my oldest something completely stupid....a part of his name, but we would never have dreamed of using it as a nickname (because it's not a name at all) and weren't going to allow it. She kept saying "I'm gonna call him ____. That will be my nickname for him". I made it clear that he already had a nickname and we would not be referring to him as anything but his full first name or his legitimate nickname. She was butthurt about it and tried a couple of times to call him that after he was born, but we insisted that she stop. Eventually she accepted that she wasn't going to win this one. She started calling him a variant of his nickname (at least she was somewhat complying), but then when he was old enough (5), he told her himself "That's not my name... My name is ____" and he even went so far as to spell it out for her LMAO.

Maybe if you added a letter like auraelia or auraylia but then it just looks funny lol. I say stick with how you have it & keep encouraging everyone to use the correct name.

My daughter has the same name as you, lol. I haven't had anyone pronounce it wrong (maybe because the US/UK accents are different anyway) but we have had people spelling it 'Freyer' when I have told them her name, lol.

The more I see the name and say it in my head, the prettier it sounds to me. If people called her by her middle name, I would just ask, "What is that?" and smile. I get it. Depending on the country, my name is pronounced a dozen different ways. It bothered me as a kid, but not so much now. Your family will come around and at least make an attempt to get her name right

What you could do is say her name EVERY single time they call her by her middle name. Eventually they're gonna find you correcting them irritating and call her by her correct name. Especially if you do it in front of people lol. My uncle said my sons name wrong for a long time till I started correcting him in front of people.

Quoting Alice.:" Tell them all to watch 'Love Actually', the Portuguese maid in it is called Aurelia, it is a beautiful name btw!!"

I took that movie and cut out each clip to piece together THEIR love story only and posted it on my facebook. So they didn't have to watch the whole thing AND there'd be lots of exposure to the name Aurelia. That movie was the first we'd heard of the name and we loved it. The only thing is, she's Portuguese and she's introduced by a French woman, and then she's referenced by an Englishman who is stammering his way through beginners Portuguese. So I probably confused them more with all the accents   LOL. But I sure tried.

Honestly think its a lovely name and I knew how to say it straight away because I was thinking about naming my daughter Aurelia but we left it at Maya.
My bf's family calls her "Magic" and/or a "Little fly" haha

I totally understand why you're so frustrated! Everyone either chooses to nickname my son Lor or Enzo, which I cannot stand or they'll pronounce his name low-renz-oh, like he's some ghetto baby. It gets on my nerves\: We just have to keep correcting them, and hope that someday they'll actually get it right!
