Delivery options.

posted 18th Nov
I have been trying to weigh all of my options for delivery. My labor with my first daughter was horrible; I have exercise induced asthma and I was having asthma attacks the whole time and couldn't breathe at all, especially when it was time to push. She was a big baby also and I tore EVERYTHING when she came out. I just don't want to go through that again. Part of me wants to just wait it out and see when I go into labor. My doctor scheduled an ultrasound two weeks from now to check fetal growth to get an estimate of how big she is. (I know it can be a few pounds off.) She said I could schedule an induction date for 39 weeks if she is on the bigger side, but everyone I talk to says to NOT do induction, it is the worst thing for me and baby. I have been thinking about the pros and cons of a C Section as well. So the point of this post is... I need opinions and personal experiences with inductions and C Sections. I feel a C section will be A LOT less stressful for me and the baby, but I have no idea what to expect with it. How long is the hospital stay with one? How long will it take to recover? The thought of my stomach being cut open scares the smurf out of me, but it also really scares me to think I won't be able to breathe while I'm in labor. Help?!

C-Sections aren't easy. You are in a lot of pain for awhile

No reason to be a rude ass, I clearly stated I don't know what to expect with a c section, hence the reason I'm asking for opinions about the pros and cons of one.

My c-section wasn't bad at all. Recovery wasn't too bad. Honestly, if it were me and labor and delivery the first time was as bad as she said, I would for sure do a c-section.

Major surgery vs vaginal birth. What is there to consider?

I've had 2 c/s. my 1st was an emergency due to fetal distress and I had to be put under. Recovery wasn't oo terrible once I stayed on top of my meds and remembered to roll out of bed rater than try to sit up.

2nd recovery was easier than the 1st, mostly b/c I knew what to expect. 1st time I stayed in the hospital 3 days and the 2nd not even 48 hours BUT DD was in a different hospital and I discharged myself to be with her.

Both times I drove the day after I was discharged

You don't know anything about my last delivery, obviously. I lost so much blood, I couldn't get off my bed for 3 days without almost passing out. I was very close to needing a blood transfusion. Not to mention the many breathing treatments I had due to my many asthma attacks while I was trying to push. So sorry if I would like other peoples opinions about my other options.

Being induced wasn't horrible; what was horrible is that they tried for DAYS- and when I was on pitocin they didn't let me eat. So for three days I was eating once a day at 11:30 pm, with gestational diabetes. THAT'S what sucked.

Were you on any medication when you gave birth the first time? Maybe they can give you something to help you calm down...?
Because let me tell you, I had to have a c-section. I waited out as long as I was possibly allowed, and I smurfing HATED my c-section. I'll never forget the pain. It's been 11 months & I am still numb, and it still hurts if too much pressure is put on certain spots... I would never want to hear about mama's voluntary going through it. It really did suck.

My c-sections were not that bad the first was worst than the second because it was a emergency c-section but still not as bad as I thaught it was going to be. You shouldnt have to be in the hospital more than 4 days unless complications come up which are very rare. They will make sure you have plenty of pain meds so you wont have to worry about that. But on the other hand most likely if you have a c-section you will always have to have a c-section. But the choice is all yours but you should do what you think is best for you and the baby, and dont let anyone on here sway you towards one thing or the other.

I had an epidural the first time. and wow that's horrible. Was your induction and C section 2 different births? How far along were you when you got induced?

Aw, I just read your comment about blood transfusions and what not- that is insane. I don't know much about it, but maybe this labor/delivery won't be so bad?
Even with a c-section, you're going to be in as much pain as you were that time around- just different. I was on percocet for like three weeks afterwards. I could barely get up or sit down. Mamas on here that say theirs wasn't that bad: I'm horribly jealous!

No, this was all one stubborn little man. I was 41 weeks & 4 days, and on 42 weeks exactly after no progression, I had to have a c-section.

I'm just scared I guess and want to weigh all of my options.

Yea, honestly if I were you I'd be looking into things, too. What you went through sounds traumatizing.. I would never want to go through that again, either.

Yeah so Idk what to do. Ha. I really don't want a c section , I just wanted opinions about it. And idk if I want to he induced at 39 weeks or just let it go whenever I go into labor. I just hope she isn't as big as my first.. lol
