What do I say??

So I come to my grandparent's pretty often, and usually my grandpa goes and smokes in the bathroom with the fan on since I never bring Aria in there anyway. Lately, the past few days he does that half the time and the other half he just lights up with her in the next room. I don't know what to say, I still like spending time here, she's the only great-grandchild of two that they actually get to see. And I don't want to be rude. Also, he has a personality just like my dad did and saying to stop something in his own home would probably escalate it.

Leaving isn't really an option most times because either SO has the vehicle and is doing whatever and taking 6 stupid hours to get back; or like right now we just flat out have nowhere else to go.

So how would you say something nicely? I mean its not like he forgets she's here. Sometimes he starts in the same room as her and I have to go into the next room, and try to stay as far away as I can but the downstairs isn't very big and I can't go upstairs, there's nowhere up there to go.

Note, its freezing outside so a walk is out of the question. And my grandpa WON'T go outside to smoke. At all.

Do you not have your own place? Like, do you live there? How do you have nowhere else to go?

I'd talk to your grandma and have talk to him about it. I'd just tell her something like I love bringing LO over but the smoking in the house is not good for her health (even the bathroom with the fan on is not good) and its making me feel like I shouldn't bring her over here anymore

Just ask your grandpa if he could smoke in the bathroom ask nicly and with a please.

We don't have our own place anymore, we just had to move out of our apartment and looks like we might be going to my mom's. But she smokes too so either way it's not good. The only thing is my mom will go outside if she knows Aria is living there again.

She's kind of worse than him :S when I was pregnant she told me that I better not be so uptight (or however she worded it) because otherwise they'd never get to see Aria. I told her the risks of 2nd hand smoke and how sick I got when I was little (both my parents were smokers until my mom quit for a few years) from being around it. She told me its BS cause she smoked while she was holding all of her babies and none of them had any issues from it.

Basically if it comes down to it I'm just going to have to stop coming here, once I have somewhere else to go.

Doesn't really work. In his mind he pretty much can do as he wants. If he wants to smoke in there he will, if he wants to smoke right here with my daughter 25 feet away, he will. :/

Its okay. I just wish he didn't think its okay. He's not even trying to be disrespectful, he just doesn't think smoking around kids is a big deal. He does it at other people's houses, and I know this is his house. But still you'd think he could do something else just temporarily.

Well right now we don't have anywhere else to go. And at first he was better about it, but he just thinks smoke is okay. They don't believe it has any affect on children whatsoever they think its BS made up by the government or something
