9 month old clingy at night?

posted 18th Nov
So I know that babies can get super clingy around 9 months. My son is 9 and a half months old now and during the day he has become more cuddly, which is nice but he's perfectly happy and not really very clingy at all - but when it gets to night time it's a whole different story. He'll go down in his cot at first no problem and will sleep a few hours as he always has but now he's started waking up screaming and wanting to be held. I thought this was fine at first, I gave him a cuddle and a kiss and put him back down and everything was fine but it's got to the point where he will just scream his lungs to bits if I out him in his cot! He'll be happy if he's in his cot and I sit next to it, holding his hand but he knows when I leave (no matter how long I wait) and starts crying again and I can't sit on the floor all night. The past 4 nights we've ended up with him in bed with us which I HATE, because it's not a huge bed. It's very cramped and i'm scared he'll get hurt or get trapped in our covers. I've always said that our bed is mine and my Husband's special place where we could be man and wife and not just Mummy and Daddy. These fears bother me so much that I don't sleep at all while he's in our bed. So i'm pretty much not sleeping...at all. I tried to let him cry a little but my Husband just can't let him cry, it breaks his heart and he can't stop himself from picking him up. Is there anyone with any ideas on how to reassure my baby? I know he just wants our protection but somethings got to give before I pass out lol.

Thanks.

I never have understood the 'bed is husband and wife space' personally. All I do is sleep there, the more cuddles the better   we have husband and wife time when LO is sleeping before we go to bed. We don't need our bed 'free' to have that time. I don't get quality time with my husband when I am asleep, but my LO does get to feel the closeness of me being near to meet her needs. That's just me, but it works for us.
Have you considered moving his cot and pushing it up to the side of you bed to give you more room, and him the closeness?

My 1 year old is just now going through this. Its SOOOO exhausting.. I sleep with one of his baby blankets and the next night give it to him so it smells like me and that has helped a little. Instead of getting 2-3 hours of sleep I get about 5

I like that idea, I think i'll give it a go tonight. He's got a snuggle cloth that he's never really been bothered about but maybe he'll take a liking to it if it smells of me.

I would happily have his cot right next to the bed if I could, I loved having his moses basket next to the bed when he was tiny but there just isnt the room for his cot there i'm afraid   I know some parents love having their babies in bed with them, my closest friend has always had her little girl in bed with her up until the age of 2and it's not that I don't agree with it (to each theirown I say) but it's just not for us i'm afraid. I devote every second of every day to my little man and I love every second of it   but I don't get much time with my Husband when he gets home from work as his hours are all over the place at the minute, so we like to be able to cuddle eachother in bed but our bed isnt just for sleep either lol if you get me.

Yeah my LO loves it   I hope it helps

Yeah me and my fiance are the same way. He works weird hours so we like our bed to be our special place. My 2 year old has his own room and my 1 year old sleeps in his crib in our room but not right by the bed. The way ive done it is when they are newborn they sleep right by the bed and as they get older I move them a little farther from the bed until they are in their own room. My 2 year old LOVES it. He never wants to leave his room. Lol

Tha's exactly how we're doing it haha! He was in his moses basket right next to me, now his cot is in our bedroom but a few feet away from the bed and eventually he'll be in hisown room. Fingers crossed that goes well too lol.
