Questions about carpet.

So today - I`m pulling up carpet in my boyfriend`s apartment, he`s helping of course but we`re going into this blind so to speak. It`s old nasty smelling carpet and I`m wondering if it`s going to come up easily, if it`s gonna be hazardous to breathe, and above all, is it gonna be extremely hard?

You should probably wear a mask just to be safe you dont know what may be flying up from the carpet as you pull it out and then you end up breathing it in

but they come up easy thy are just held on by tacking strips.

Are you laying new carpet down or is the apartment people coming in to help? He's renting, right? So, they NEED to put down new carpet legally.

We`re renting, and we pulled all of it up ourselves. My arms are broken out in a rash from whatever was under that carpet. It was horrifying - the padding underneath was maybe as thick as three sheets of paper. So gross. We have worked so hard you would think they would give us a discount on new carpet!

So you're also paying for new carpet?

No. We want to apartment to replace the carpet - but they said that they can`t. wtf are we supposed to do? linoleum is running about 600 bucks for the footage of our apartment and we don`t have that kind of money right now because of buying everything else we needed.

here u have to be in the apt for so long before they will do it, or the carpet has to not have been new when u moved in.

That was our case as well, except they smacked us with carpet costs upon move out when our carpet still looked perfectly fine. It's law in CO it has to be replaced every 2yrs if tenant asks or if someone new moves in on the property/apartment.

we were in the apt for 7 or 8 years or longer so they didnt get my mom for anything... We have lived in the same complex for 12, we moved from a 2 bed room to a 3 bedroom.
