Drink water! That's the biggest thing that has helped me. Eat smaller portions, lots of fruits & veggies, and not a whole lot of bread. I've done that, and since August 20th, I've went from 201 to 180. Excercise? Cardio is good, but you have to find something you love-otherwise you may quit. I love to run, but when i started out, I could only all. I would walk 2-3 miles a day. Now I run daily. Also weight training is good, so when the weight is coming off it is tightening you back up. I try to go to the gym 2-3 times a week just for strength training.
Good luck with your weight loss. It's hard, but you can do it. After you start losing, it becomes exciting, and gives you motivation to keep going.
