Getting your tubes tied D&D

Ok so, this is a question for all the pro-choice ladies on here.

First off, I'm not sure how it is here, or anywhere else for that matter, but I've heard that in some states a woman cannot get her tubes tied until she is something like 23-25 or has had 3 or more children.

Now I was wondering, do you think it's wrong to tell a woman that she can't make the choice to get a surgery that will stop her from being able to have children? I mean, I think that should be left up to her, regardless of age or how many children she has had. And if you're pro-choice, you believe that a person should be able to do whatever she/he wants to do with their body. So that should apply to this too, right?

Forgive me if I'm completely wrong and there is no regulations on getting your tubes tied, I haven't really done much research. I've just heard a lot of stories about women wanting to get it done and doctors telling them they had to wait.

once again its just women being turned into brood mares for the state ... its the same here in Australia, finding a doctor to perform a tubal is almost impossible unless you've had more than 4 kids. However I know a few 20 odd year old men with no kids who have had a vasectomy.

My state says 23 I believe and 1-2 kids. I worked with a girl who told her doc she hated kids and wanted them tied so she never had any. He asked her what shed do if she accidentally got pregnant and would she be excited, she said no, she would probably end up in jail for being a smurffy parent. He tied her for honesty. I don't know if its a law or more of a guideline, because its permanent.

She got them tied at 20, btw.

Yeah, I really wasn't sure if it's just suggested to wait, or if it's actually a law in some states. I've known quite a few people that went to have it done though and were told they had to wait. I just think it's kind of messed up. I mean, if you only want one child, or none, why shouldn't you be able to? That's good that your friend got to have it done though, it sounds like she made the right decision for herself.

i think that what the do is smart.. i do think that it should be a choice. but when we are younger choice has been proven to change to something els as we have gotten older.. if you are healthy and you dont have children i think that law is fine.. its also a major surgery in a way.

it is a law in some states.. but thats only due to the fact of how many people come back to have there tubes untied.

I don't think its law. More so of Dr.s just refusing to do it.

I just don't understand why a woman shouldn't be able to make that choice for herself. I can see a doctor suggesting a woman take some time to think about it, and then come back because it is a big decision, not to mention permanent. But to outright tell her no? Just doesn't seem right to me. I mean, you could argue that if someone doesn't want children then she should be on birth control, or just not have sex. Let's face it though, birth control fails and people are going to have sex.

My country's law says that you have to be at least 18 years old to apply for the procedure. But not all doctors will be up to the task (some of them will say no b/c of their principles) and you may have to travel to a hospital where you can have it done. Sometimes it is worth looking around, there may be significant differences in the total amount of the hospital bill and all you gotta do is drive like an hour. Prior to introducing this law, the deadline was at least 35 years of age (number of kids irrelevant) or any age but three or more healthy, living offsprings of your own.

Ah, I see. I guess that makes sense. Still though, I think you should be able to make that decision for yourself. I'm not saying let 13 year olds do it or anything, but an adult that has had time to think long and hard about it? Yeah, I don't think she should be refused.

I don't think its a law, I think it's more of a guideline.
I think the guideline is in place for good reason; many women regret getting it done and at a young age they may not realize that their mind could change years later if they get married, have a better job, etc.
It's a permanent decision for a sometimes temporary mindset.

I mean...same as a tattoo. You have to be at least 18 to get one. If 15 year olds could get tattoos, I'm sure there would be a lot more regretted tattoos in the world  

The guidelines are there, IMO, to prevent such a permanent decision from being made at an age when there will be plenty of time for things to change and for it to end up regrettable.

I think that's just ridiculous. 35? Most women know when they are done having children, or if they don't want any. What if a woman got pregnant and then the child was neglected because the mother didn't want it?

OT, but are you really from Budapest? I went there when I was 15 and I've always wanted to go back! I loved it there!

Right, I totally get that. It's a huge decision and should not be taken lightly. I'm not saying that we should let 13 year olds go out and get their tubes tied haha. But, I mean an adult that has had a lot of time to think about it should be able to. I don't know, I've heard that it's a law in some states that you have to be a certain age with so many kids, which I think is kind of messed up. But the guideline thing makes a lot of sense.

And don't worry about it haha. I'm sure I'm all over the place too...I haven't even slept yet O.o
