True, true.

Yeah, 35 years of age is now ancient history. Yet not many women go for the procedure, i assume they are somewhat scared of irreversible things. My friend at the age of 41 said that she would feel mutilated (not that she wanted any more kids with two adolescents and a yucky divorce behind her back).
And it is the pressure from society as well- unless there are health reasons in the background, you are considered an oddbal, kinda psycho for admitting that you do not want to have children. Society here has a weird attitude towards adoption too, a woman who gives up her baby for adoption is a low-scale being, subject to bashing and despise from the majority.

That's really sad that there's such a stigma attached to it. I can see being scared to get it done, because your mind could always change. Some women just know that they don't want to be mothers though, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, but then there are people like me, who were SO SURE they didn't want any more kids...and I've changed my mind
I don't know that I'll have any more kids but I'm so happy that I still have the option and that I didn't get my tubes tied.
I had 2 kids by 21.

You know what is crazy? That those harrassive commenters think that it would help anyone. No, that woman would not be fond of motherhood, just because others lay her on guilt trips.
Those who opt for a childless lifestyle should live comfortably with their decisions, on the long run too. After all, it is not that irreversible, as long as your ovaries do not shut down, you can go for artificial insemination.

I feel the same way. Nobody should be made to feel ashamed because they choose a lifestyle that is somewhat different. Just because some people say that motherhood is the best thing in the world, doesn't automatically make it true for everybody.

I think its a BS law. If someone doesnt want babies then tie that smurf. Avoid the whole abortion route.

This almost came into law. If I was a man I would be pissed

There are actually a lot of reasons that doctors don't like to perform tubal ligations. It is a much more invasive surgery then a vasectomy. Plus, it can exacerbate conditions like cystic ovaries. Also, if you get the clip instead of the cut-n-burn method, the clips can come loose which can result in an ectopic pregnancy or other complications.

I had my tube tied (I only had one because of an ectopic pregnancy) and I didn't have any issues. In fact, I think when I told my doctor I wanted to get it done, he did a secret happy dance because my pregnancies kept him very, very busy.

I seriously don't recommend a hysterectomy unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. I had an awful experience with that.

I'm not against abortion at all. I just think that this ties into the whole "her body, her choice" thing. If a woman wants to get an abortion, then she should be able to, and if she wants to get her tubes tied she should be able to do that as well. I do agree with there being guideline though. I don't think doctors should give it to everybody that comes into their office wanting one, I think they should suggest that they take time to think long and hard about it, and go over all of the risks involved. If the woman still wants one after going every possible risk factor, then she should be able to get it. I don't think it's right for a doctor to just outright refuse it. Also, you could argue that if a woman doesn't want to have a baby and gets pregnant on accident, she could just get an abortion. Which is true, but some woman want to avoid having one at all costs as they can be very emotionally traumatizing.
