I don't know if this has been posted before, so please don't jump down my throat if it has. I recently came across this story on FB. Another military wife posted this and is asking for help. Is this smurf real? The FB comments are atrocious.
My sister, Jenn, recently told me about a difficult situation her friend/ coworker is in. Her friend (we'll call her "Mary" for the sake of privacy), living near Gainesville, had fostered a young girl (we'll call her "Katie") about four years ago to provide her with a more stable home environment. After raising and supporting Katie for some time, Mary became pregnant with twins. She realized she would not be able to properly provide for her oldest child, two new babies, and little Katie, so Katie was placed back into the system to receive a new foster home.
Just a few months ago, Mary received a phone call with heartbreaking, disturbing news. At Katie's new foster home, she had been sexually abused and impregnated by her older foster brother. Katie is only 10 years old. She is due in January 2013 and has decided not to place the baby boy up for adoption. Mary immediately agreed to take Katie back into her care to help raise her alongside Mary's oldest child, 3 year-old twin girls, and now a young infant.
Mary and her husband have graciously and selflessly taken on the responsibility of this child and her new baby. They have not asked for help, but when Jenn asked what was needed, Mary's reply was "everything." She is very appreciative of any help that is given to them.
My sister and I were so heartbroken by this story that we feel compelled to do as much as possible for this young girl, this baby, and this incredible foster family. It is our goal to spread this story around to you, our friends and family, in hopes that you will be moved and compelled to help as well. We are asking for donated items for the baby (a continuously updated list of needed items can be found on our What to Give
page), as well as monetary donations for the young girl and her foster parents. Visit our How to Help
page for more information on donating. The family is unaware of our efforts to collect items and raise money for them. We have told them that we will help with as much as possible, but they do not know to what extent.
Every single item and every single penny that we collect will go directly to the family. We are attempting to collect all donations by December 15, 2012 in case the baby arrives before his January due date.
Please spread this story and this website to friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. If we all give just a small donation, we will most assuredly make a big, positive difference in this unfortunate situation. This world has taken so much from this young girl in her first ten years of life, it's time we show her the love and kindness that this world has to GIVE.
Thank you in advance for all of your support and donations! God bless you all!
