Constipation and Potty training

posted 18th Nov
I'm sooooooooooo stressed out! My 3 1/2 year old daughter won't poop in the toilet! She pees just fine in the toilet but she is holding her stool back. Its been so bad, shes was hospitalized in September for this problem and it still persists even though she has been taking stool softeners and miralax... I tried changing her diet as well and no dice! I dont know what to do to make her poop in the toilet.

I cant help but get angry and sad that when I do get her to poop she does it in her pants this whole situation has turned me into a nervous wreck. HELP!!!!!!!

We have a Doctors appointment coming up so please dont MENTION DOCTOR I want to know if there is any ladies who are going through what Im going through or been through it.

I used to take my daughter in the bathroom with me from the time she could crawl.. I told her what I was doing & that big girls go in the potty cuz it would be yucky if poo poo got in her clothes. I got her a lil potty chair cuz she was scared she would fall in. Have you talked to her about it? Do you think she might be scared? Show her when you go so she could be like mommy. Also reward her well & lots of praise..if she thinks you're stressed about her going..she might revert back.

my daughter generally only farts before she needs to poop, so if I would hear her fart or smell it, I'd take her in the bathroom, have her sit on the toilet and read. I'd say things like, your belly will feel better once the poopy comes out! Or I smell it! Do you smell it? Get that stinky poopy out.
She started saying things like "I hear it! It's coming out mommy" it's kind of weird, but it makes her feel good when I get really excited about you pooping.

You have to stop freaking out on her for accidents. It probably really hurts her. Is she drinking enough?

really the only reaction I ever saw with my daughter if I'd freak out about an accident or shame her would be to stop wanting to go on the potty at all. Now it's just more of a "Oh no, you had an accident! Let's get you cleaned up and see if you can still go potty." and then I remind her about going on the potty or letting me know. I was at the point when I was freaking out all of the time and we were both just really stressed, it was awful. Just don't make it a big deal, and hopefully she'll be more ok with it.

YES she is drinking a lot. She I just dont know how to tell her holding it in isnt good for her in a way she can take me seriously.   In the mean time I will try to keep my composure

well we just moved recently, so she had a big set back potty training wise. We were at the point she wasn't wanting to poop at all, even in a diaper. She's been doing great this whole week though, yesterday she even pooped without me asking if she needed to. She came out and said "I pooped momma!" I was really proud, but had to take her back into the bathroom because she can't wipe correctly for poop ha.
Just, try and stay calm for both of your sakes. Kids really just want to feel like they're making us happy and read our emotions pretty well. If you start thinking about it as not as big of a deal, maybe she won't feel as stressed or pressured about the whole situation and it'll just happen.
