Would you reuse a car seat?
posted 17th Nov
So we've had the car seat DS (who's 2 1/2) used as a newborn stored away. It was new when we bought it and we know that it's never been in an accident. Obviously we're tossing it if it's expired, but provided it isn't, is there any reason we still shouldn't use it? It's in great condition from what I can see, but I don't know if I'm overlooking anything and we should still get a new one.

You bought it used? I would be weary then. Sure it's never been in a car accident, but you never know if it's been checked at an airport, how they cleaned spit up off the straps, if it ever got kicked, thrown dropped, etc.

We used my oldest's infant seat for our youngest..ill be buying a new one for this one though bc i don't have that one anymore.

Yeah, if it's not expired and it's your old car seat then I don't see a problem with reusing it.

No, it was brand new. It's just been used by my son.

Thank you! I like to consider myself pretty well educated on car seat safety but I'm also pretty paranoid, I guess. We're going to get it out of storage tomorrow, so I figured I'd ask.

Bought Brand New for One Baby.
Not Dropped, not in an accident, straps not Submerged, all basic Care instructions were Followed.
Put back & nothing Different done, just put back.
Not Expired.
Sounds Like Our Daughter's Carrier carseat.
We're holding on to it just in case we do get to have a 3.0, & will be using. Hopefully if 3.0 is like our Other 2 & the seat wont expire before then(it's a Maxi-Cosi Mico from 2010), we'll get more than 18months More Use out of it!

Oh! In that case, I would say you're good as long as it's not expired! That's what I thougth you meant but one sentence in there confused me a little. Lol

I sold our carrier not even a week before we found out we were expecting again, lol - but I would totally reuse it if it was kept in great condition, no accidents and you were the only owners! (And it wasn't expired).

Why not cribs?
I'm the same way with carseats. We just tossed our DDs infant carrier in the trash because I don't believe in selling or buying used carseats.

why not use it?
it's not exp, you know the history and it has no recalls. I wouldn't pay another 60-90 ( or more) on another seat.

i just sold my car seats as my kids outgrew them. i know i wouldnt buy used, but i know i kept my car seats in good condition, so if someone wants to trust me why not. I just bought a new one with each child. But that doesnt mean u shouldnt reuse yours, I had space issues.
