When to stop giving whole milk?

posted 17th Nov
Basic question.

DD is 2, almost 2.5. She is 21 lbs, so that's why I kept buying it, hoping to get her to gain some. Well it's been a year now, and that hasn't worked. Lol.

So DH was wondering when you typically quit giving whole milk and switch to skim/1%/2%/whatever your household drinks....

I always loved whole milk so mom never switched me. I still drink it.

We've never bought anything but whole milk. It's what DH and I both grew up drinking and everything else just tastes disgusting and watered down. Isn't it healthier, anyway?

We drink whole milk too. The extra fats in it are good for you.

:gag:

I can't do it. I drink 1%. And I only drink that because DH and I had to compromise when we moved in together. I drank skim and he drank 2%/

Skim is like colored water to me. Yuck! I can sometimes stand 2% if I have no other choice. I lovvvveeeee whole milk.

I just don't drink milk. Lol. But when I use it for cereal and stuff, I like lighter milk.

Had she not been so underweight I would have just given her what we drink. But it's obviously not helping her gain at all so I'm just gonna give her 1% and call it good.

Well, Christopher is about to be 3yrs old and STILL drinks whole milk. He's tiny. DH grew up on whole milk and I grew up on 2%, but we decided to make healthier choices when we moved out and got married. We now drink skim, but it's doubtful Christopher will ever get skim milk until he's quite a bit older. Christopher also drinks Pediasure to help with weight gain because whole milk alone isn't doing it, but I do hear the whole milk has healthy fats in it for LO's.

My DD is 25 months and still only 22 pounds. She just had an appointment a couple weeks ago and our doctor said it's best to keep her on whole milk to at least help maintain her weight because she may start to lose if we switch to 2%.

That's how our doctor felt as well.

She's a crappy eater sometimes so I'm not willing to risk her losing weight. She loves Greek yogurt thankfully and that has a ton of fat as well.

We're gonna try to switch. If she can maintain we will continue on. She is 2 yrs 4 months and eats way more than I do. This afternoon she ate 3/4 of a box of shells and cheese.
