sty?

posted 17th Nov
99% sure DD has a sty (stye?). Of course she'd get it the week of Thanksgiving.. gah.   I've never had one, or had to deal with one, so other than hot wash cloths, is there anything I can do for it?

She says it really hurts.

I read once a tea bag can help. But idk. I'd google it to be sure. But yeah I think just as hot as she can stand wash cloths is about all you can do   sucks.

I used to get them alllll the time as a child. I worked for an optometrist and really hot compresses work the best.

You can give her Motrin for the pain, it may help some. Poor girl.. they are painful.

Warm compress. Put rice in a tube sock and tie it off, then microwave it. It keeps warm longer than a wash cloth. 4 times a day for 15 minutes.
My daughter had a HUGE one last month. It was gross. It's still not gone away completely.

Warm compress is about all you can do, although an optometrist told me they can give you antibiotics if it gets to bad. I got a really bad sty once and now I have a permanent bump in my eyelid because it scarred :/

Hot compresses and tell her not to touch/rub the eye. Doing them three or more of you like a day helps it heal. It should drain in about a week. Poor baby they are painful  . A little Tylenol or Ibuprofen will help with the pain.

You probably had a chalazion which has very similar symptoms to a typical stye. The only difference is this is a cyst and not a 'pimple' looking stye.

That's what I thought it was, but her doc said it was just a stye. It did end up getting the white head and popping. Ew

Oh, I didn't know that. I still have the bump and it still occasionally swells and gets "gunky" (sp?)

Thanks ladies. I feel so bad. I hope it heals by Thanksgiving. She keeps wanting to rub it and is complaining about her eye hurting - I only noticed her eye being red this afternoon, so it's probably in the beginning stages even.

I had a huge Chalazion that I had to have lanced twice. It was awful.   It had a white head on it, but never popped.
