Whenever the parents want. My daughters almost 4. I put her in her bed at 3, but she still wakes up in the middle of the night and comes to our room. I don't mind it as long as mommy and daddy get their *time* first.

Quoting [[Breezy]]:" Why is it different if you're a single parent? Just curious as to why you said that."

I only meant if there wasn't an SO or partner of some sort also sleeping in the bed. But I suppose the single parent should also have some alone time on their own, too. Totally didn't mean it in a bad way when I singled them out, just was thinking about the intimacy between spouses/partners/whatever and how it's important to not neglect.

Although personally we stopped at about 6 months when DD started getting a little wild in her sleep. Occasionally we'll put her in the bed with us when she isn't feeling well or has a bad dream and can't get back to sleep. Usually we don't get much sleep after though because she ends up sideways and kicking us in the ribs.

DD is 16 months and we still co-sleep. I never planned to, but DH (against my wishes) put DD in bed with us when she was sick at two months old. We've been co-sleeping ever since. Some nights when we want alone time we will put her in her bed, but I always find it hard to sleep and get anxious when she's not next to me.   I won't be co-sleeping with our future children.

My husband works nights, so I co-sleep with both of my girls (ages 3 and 5). I wouldn't say that there was an age limit, really.

Quoting ma ♥:" It literally makes me sad imaging our co-sleeping days being over   I'm a single parent & I work ... [snip!] ... even makes any sense... I was just curious as to what other people thought, since I know alot of parents on here co-sleep."

Aww! If you enjoy it and are sad to think of it eventually being over, I'd say keep it up until either one of you grows uncomfortable with it. No reason to stop unless that happens or if you want a little time and space to yourself, y'know? It's certainly not harmful, especially when you get a sense of togetherness by sharing a bed with him.

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah I mean whether or not independent time is important is subjective...some single mothers don't want to co-sleep, and some do, just as some couples enjoy sleeping together with their children and find other ways to keep the flame going in the relationship, and some couples enjoy having their bed to themselves.

I coslept with my parents til I was embarrassingly old...I mean I have plenty of psychological damage but cosleeping had nothing to do with it...

whatever works for you and the child...I am a single mom and I cosleep because of the fact that I am nursing and exhausted with no one here to stay up with him if he should give any grief..
People grill me about it all the time, claiming that a child with never learn to self soothe, but personally I think it's a lot of bologna.

You don't have to be in bed to be intimate

I cosleep with DD and will until she wants to move to her own room. I'm a single mom and it's so much easier for me. Plus, I LOVE that time with my baby.

OP, I am exactly like you. I feel anxious even thinking about the day DD and I dot cosleep anymore!

I have no doubt in my mind that when the time comes, it'll be a piece of cake to switch him over to his own bed. He's just that type of kid, really easy going & I don't think it would phase him at all. Me on the other hand...
