3 month old and their poop
posted 17th Nov
I just switched my son from Enfamil Infant to Gerber Good Start Protect. He seems to be pooping more, it's more seedy and liquidy (looks more like diarrhea than his normal poops with Enfamil). It started off dark green, then brown, now it's light greenish yellow all within today. I think his poops burn because he started screaming when I tried wiping him. Now he wont stop fussing. We've never had this problem before. Is this normal? Do you have any suggestions?

DS is only 2 weeks, but he's on Gerber Good Start Protect, his poops are always dark green with yellow "seeds" and really squishy, like warm peanut butter. He only poops once a day though. SO and I joke around that someone is feeding him army men, cause it looks like melted army men.

If you changed the formula without doing it gradually it might be his body trying to adjust itself. It might be a good idea that while his body is adjusting to the change start using Diaper rash cream just to insure no rash appears there because of irritating bowel movements. If it doesn't improve over the next couple days call the ped. to make sure you might not have a sick baby.

lol it kind of does doesn't it? Well, he normally pooped once a day with Enfamil, but now he pooped 4x today, which isn't normal for him. I wasn't sure if I should change his formula.

I put the cream on him every time I change the diaper just so he has a better chance of not getting one. I also put half Enfamil and half Gerber in his bottle for the first few days. Would he have a temperature if he wasn't feeling well?

Same thing happened with my 4 month old. The seeds are poop balls and Gerber Good Start helped LO poop a lot better than on enfamil. Enfamil constipated LO really bad. It may be that the formula is working too well. Are you on WIC? LO is on Gentle and it just makes him poop REALLY good

It all depends on if he is fighting an infection. My daughter never ran fevers with loss stools but it turned out she was allergic to the formula and just about everyone that there was available. I really hope you can figure out what's wrong I don't think its anything but an adjustment. The stomach pain if there is any is an adjustment also and should go away in a couple days.

Oh okay. Yeah. With Enfamil he would poop once a day or every other day sometimes. With Gerber he poops at least 2 times a day if not more. Yes I have WIC. That's why I changed to Gerber since it was the only formula they cover in Florida. Are the seeds normal? I know they're normal with breast milk, but never heard of it with formula.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep an eye on him and see if his body adjusts.

It might just be poop balls. LO had/has that and I asked my step mom about it. She pointed out that as long as he's eating what he can handle like formula and cereal and not solids that we eat he will be fine. If you were to give him tastes of say mashed potatoes or something complex like that he would definitely have seeds in his poop

Oh okay. As long as it doesn't effect him that makes me feel better. Thanks for your help.
