Get rid of binky or not?

posted 17th Nov
My 5 month old is having major sleep problems. I'm reading no cry sleep solution. She's waking up after a half hour. She uses the binky & it seems like at the half hour mark if the binky is out of her mouth then she wakes for sure. She doesn't seem to be getting how to put herself to sleep either, she won't cry in the crib she just plays even though she's still tired. So CIO won't work.

Should I try & lose the binky & forget about her trying to put herself to sleep, or should I focus on getting her to put herself to sleep and won't worry about the binky? At what age will she be able to put it back her in own mouth?

I'm not getting any sleep & I'm bound to the house all day because she's tired every hour-two hours from not sleeping longer.

I'm desperate! Advise? Tips? Miracles?

DD learned to put her binky back in at 6 months. BUT! At a year, she still won't do it if she wakes up. Honestly, DD was the same way for months, and still is sometimes. She slept through the night from 2-6.5 months and then all of a sudden wouldn't go back to sleep unless she was next to me. I apologize for not being any help, but you aren't alone!

My daughter didn't want hers after 6 months but once she fell asleep it fell out of her mouth anyways and she was fine. However, we swaddled her tightly up to 6 mos which helped her from waking up as often because she was so snug. Could you try something like that? Do you rock her to sleep first or have her in a swing? Maybe try changing up the routine a little. If she can fall asleep without the binky in your arms, maybe that would keep her from waking up? Good luck!

She will at times, but when it falls out, especially at night, i have to hold it in & pat her butt, rock her, nurse, even then sometimes i lay her back down & she wakes up. She sleeps usually half hour stretches during the day and only gets anywhere from an 1-3.5 hrs and at night either 3-5 hour stretches usually. Lately more on the 3 hour side.

Well thanks, my LO has been like this since 2 months. She sleeps in her crib but just isn't getting the program! Ha! It's making me really crazy & stressed. Which makes me sad. I just don't know which direction to go in.

I rock her until she's mostly asleep, eyes closed but still sucking binky. If I try & take it away she roots bad! So I give it back & that's kinda how she puts herself to sleep the rest of the way. Though, when she wakes she has no clue how to get back to sleep. In the middle of the night she nurses back to sleep but I'm not going to deprive her of it. If she wakes after a few minutes though its back to square one.
