re: do you care if your family likes your babys name?

posted 17th Nov
Didn't know the sex of number two, but we didn't share our choices until it was decided after he was born. My mom hated his name, she is very blunt and said it out right. But then she retracted and now she says nothing about it and were are still very happy with our choice 10 months later.

lol my mom wasnt fond of my daughters name either, its Gianna, she could barley pronounce it like its so hard lol... so she just calls her GiGi now :/

I'll listen to their opinions and take it into consideration but in the end the choice is mine. Each member of my family kept telling me to name my daughter this and that, and gave their opinions about each name we picked until we settled with Emma, then their opinions didn't matter because we just loved that name so much lol

Lucas was on my list, but SO shot pretty much everything down. We liked Jameson and then after we found out we were having a boy, he said no. -__-

nope once the baby comes it really doesn't matter, no one says anything about the name after that and they grow to like the baby/child so the name doesn't seem weird..

When DH and I announced our daughter's name (Luna), it wasn't received very well at first. Yeah, I minded a bit, because they were my family, and I hated hearing about it being a bad name, but that didn't sway my decision.

They'll come around. They always do, so try not to let the comments get to you.

Lol yeah the way my mom said it reminded me of diarrhea...I was like really mom? But once she got the hang of it, she liked it

I do tend to care a lot about my mother's opinion...especially with my first, because BD wasn't involved. I mean, I think you should take your family's opinion into consideration somewhat...just because they might see something you don't...but unless they have a really valid issue with it, I would just listen politely and go with the name you want.

First Kieran, she made all kinds of comments on how it sounded feminine and then I loved Maxwell and she kept making coffee jokes and asking of his middle name was going to be "Smart" (hardy har mom) and it just got so old after a while that I went back to the drawing board and choose something that her and my ex liked even though I didn't. (It's Caleb, which isn't awful and it does fit him really well - but I like it on other people's kids, it's too popular for me).

Yeah......my next baby WILL have a name that I love, lol!

Do you pronounce it R-E-Ah or Air-E-Ah?

I love the name and pronounce it the first way.

I hate how popular names get when they're on a popular TV show

First way

I was worried about it becoming overly popular because of the show, but I have a good friend who's a L&D nurse and she had never heard it...DH is in love with it so I'm taking my chances. It's too cute when he rubs my belly and tells me what a pretty name she has
