Sounds so very much like me! I cant use most detergents, deodorants, certain pads, makeup, yada yada yada...i have a steroid cream that i use religiously but dont have to get steroid shots for external things. I have lupus, an auto-immune deficiency disease, so my body attacks itself but internally. Cant wear any kind of perfume, body spray or adult lotion unless i feel like having severe burns and a chemical peel from the products...lol. Guess thatd be a cheap facial...lol

Working in the medical field has nothing to do with your own pain tolerance and procedures you are comfortable doing on your own. I went to school to be a dental assistant and I know exactly how to treat a dry socket, doesn't mean I'd be willing to do it on my own.

Oh man I feel you! I have no immune deficiency or any "real" medical diagnosis but I have to be so careful about everything that comes in contact with my skin. I hate it. There's no real reason why I react the way I do, my body just goes insane and they don't know why so they have labeled it as an "overactive immune" system but I have my doubts. I still get sick so if I had this insanely aggressive immune system that can't stop attacking everything why do I still get colds? LOL Or the flu or the ear infections I JUST got over?

Gotta love it when the docs look at u, shrug, and give u a label that could mean a hundred different things. Been there done that...i tell them now look im not stupid u can say u dont know lol. Ya thatll get u a go to hell look. But we r all human. And i should have said the reason i personally am a do it myselfer was because of my experiences but that does not go for everyone. My dad was like me so thats probably where i get it from. But i do know when to not do it myself and i cant do my teeth myself thats just a different kind if pain i cant tolerate. Lol i can lance stuff on my vag but not take tooth pain...lol

My Dad is the same as me too and they also told him he had an over active immune system. He gets psoriasis all over his body so bad. Thankfully I don't get it so I dont have it as bad as him. Still it's obviously genetic and neither of our symptoms appeared until we were older, puberty range so I worry about my kids having inherited it.

Ya i am the same way with my kids. Ds1 is 9yrs old and has psoriasis like me(not too bad) but i worry he'll get the psoriatic arthritis like me and that DS2,on the way, will get it. My family on my birth mothers side all have sensitive skin but im the lucky one that went to extremes. Hopefully ur kids dont get it. Ive been told my skin reactions is just severe allergy attacks but allergy meds dont fix it so i chalk it up to another shrung and an i dont know diagnosis.
