Going Outside Naming Pattern

posted 17th Nov
With our first two children, we've fallen into a bit of a naming pattern. We named them Rue and Zoe...both have three letters, end with E, are short and to the point...

Except that I've fallen in love with the name Alana for a girl...It's longer and more classic than what we've gone with in the past. I can see no obvious potential teasing points, and think it's going to age really well. The only problem is that it's outside our naming patterns, so I'm wondering if it sound totally wierd with Rue and Zoe. Is it ok to break a naming pattern, or should I find something within the patterns that we've gone with before?

I see no problem with 'breaking tradition'

but I hate any name with Lana in it. It's Anal backwards

If it makes you feel any better my first 3 boys names are Jon Jayden and Jameson and this last one is Dallas   So I think Alana will be completely okay   plus its cute I like it

  lol...

Alana has a lot of meaning to me, as well, which is another part of the appeal.

Well that is all that matters

I wouldn't have an issue with the name, but I had an ex who wanted to name his kid Lana, JUST for that reason. He wanted to chuckle when he said her name

i dont see why you cant. i dont think anyone will really put them together like that or the kids hate you for messing up the pattern. My son is Thorian and if we have a second son he will be Jameson. At first its kind of odd cuz thereso different and Jameson is some what common but after awhile ill get over it

I think that names that have nothing to do with each other go best.

ALL that matters is that you love the name.

I don't think it's a problem. My son's name is Asa and my daughter's name is Emi but our next kid will probably have a longer name. We're just out of 4 letter names we like.

That's absolutely our problem...We just can't find any shorter names that we really really like, the way we fell in love with Rue and Zoe. The similar names weren't even on purpose, it's just what we liked.

Lol @ Kelly...Alana is the name of my mentor since the third grade...She's been a second Mom to me my entire life (That I can remember)...She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer...I love the name Alana, and the reasons behind it definitely back it up.

I don't think going outside of your pattern will make the name seem "out of place". I think they are all awesome names. Rue, Zoe, Alana- I like them together. =]

The other reason I wasn't sure about Alana is because Rue's middle name is Alaina...which is really, really close. I mean, I don't use her middle name much, but it's still Alaina minus an I.

then that is weird! You can find something that has nothing to do with your children's names. weather you use a middle name or not, it will be too matchy

I would use a longer name if you want to. However I wouldn't use Alana after your other daufhter's middle name is Alaina. It's way too close
