hives in a 2 year old..
posted 17th Nov
My son just randomly started breaking out with hives about 20 mins ago. His pedi is closed and the hospital I take him to cant give medical advice on the phone? Should I take him to the ER? He is acting fine but they are itching him a little. There has been no change in anything that I am aware of.
I just dont know if this is ER worthy

Give him Benadryl. Did he eat anything new? Was he around anything new? Cats, grass?

Yeah give him Benadryl. It really isn't ER worthy IMO

Yeah, just benadryl..unless they don't go away. i wouldn't take him to the ER. its cold and flu season!

when this happened to my kids, I just gave them benadryl. if the hives got worse, or came back later, I took them to the ER. I found out later that the two who broke out were having an allergic reaction to penicillin.

Personally I'd give Benadryl and go to urgent care. I've seen bad things happen from "just hives"

As long as hives aren't accompanied by shortness of breath I wouldn't take him to ER. I would call the doctor but if they got worse then yea I would take him to the ER

Thanks everyone. He is asleep now. Next to me because I am paranoid. He has a cough and so do I now from him. I googled that sometimes croup and hives can come together. IDK if he has croup but like I said we do have a cough, no shortness of breath though and same happy baby.
He has daycare Monday and I am contemplating going to UR tomorrow to see whats going on. IDK if he can go to daycare with hives? I hope they go away. I just checked and they are still there.
IDK I think I am gonna go tmrw. I am nervous. I dont think it can be an allergic reaction. We didnt do anything new........He ate cheese doodles and then I noticed them popping up as I was rinsing his hands in water. He has had cheese doodles before and nothing else was different or new.
Thanks again everyone.
