Question about a stillborn babys umbilical cord
posted 17th Nov
I gave birth to my stillborn baby on the 8th Nov this year.
And i was wondering what colour a stillborn babys umbilical cord is meant to be? As my babys was a really dark red colour. Could this mean that his death could be something due to his umbilical cord?
Im currently still waiting for the post mortem results to come back through

Could have been a blood clot, but I don't know what color it is supposedto be with a still birth. Sorry for your loss. *hugs*

I think they are usually blue/white, with live births. But.....I'm extremely sorry for your loss. I hope you are able to find peace and find the answers you are needing.

My daughter's was red. She was stillborn at 39w4d. She passed 3-4 days prior to labor according to the autopsy.
Feel free to PM me any questions or to vent.

i was 37 weeks when my baby passed, its so heartbreaking
Just want some answers..
Can they tell when the baby died by doing the post mortem then? As my baby looked so fragile when i'd given birth to him, they didnt even let me hold him straight away. They put him straight into a moses basket . x
Did you have a healthy pregnancy next time around? I am so anxious and scared for my next pregnancy its unbelieveable x

My daughter was stillborn at 38 weeks in March. I didn't see her umbilical cord, so I'm not exactly sure what color it was. Her cord was the cause of death, though. It had gotten wrapped tightly around her shoulder during labor. They did mention that there were clots in both the cord and Eden's arm.
I hope you get answers, mama. I know that not knowing exactly what happened is so incredibly hard. I'm here if you ever need to talk. <3

From what I understand, if its a cord accident they can tell at birth cause its wrapped, kinked, knoted.
They sent the placenta for pathology right? That will help determine possible clotting too.
Our autopsy told us an estimated time of fetal demise in utero.
I'm currently pregnant. We were allowed to ttc after I healed from delivery. I was sent to a hematologist to make sure I didn't have a blood clotting disorder (even though clotting was not her cause of death). I'm now being monitored extremely close this pregnancy and she will be taken early at 37weeks either by induction or cesearean unless needed sooner.

This baby is due on the same due date. Conceived exactly a year later. At first the ob told us 6months, then at my post partum appointment he said go ahead. Physically I had healed, he said it was to make sure I could emotionally handle it. My new ob said it was fine too.
Back to back pregnancy is hard on the body. Im more tired this time and since my uterus hadnt all the way shrunk back (takes 2 years), and being a subsequent pregnancy Im showing a lot more and feel bigger.
