It's the EMPLOYEES FAULT for taking on a minimum wage job. It's not Walmart's fault that you (general you) decided to work at Walmart for the rest of your life instead of going to college. Not their fault one bit, nor should they pay you like you're worth something grand. Because in the big scheme of things, you're not. All you are is a high school graduate. Wooo?

I kind of agreed with everything else...but If I had a dollar for every person I knew with a degree who was working at a fast food joint....I'd be able to afford to go to college to get myself a degree and join them at McDonalds,lol

Why shouldn't it be a smurffy job? Seriously, it requires ZERO skill to work there, no prior experience, no degree, etc. etc. It's a low skill RETAIL job. If their employees are signing up for entitlement programs and don't want to perhaps they should look into changing career tactics or taking some vocational classes or something. It's no one else's fault but the employees if they decide to make walmart a career.

People with degrees have to work holidays too. But not every single one. That's just not right. Especially thanksgiving/Christmas.

People complain about others being on welfare and having to pay for them, yet they're okay with the minimum wage not being livable. Seriously...come on now. When an hour of work can't even buy 2 gallons of milk...

How did all these companies survive before they inflated prices and paid livable wages?!? Must have been a miracle.

Very true, but it's usually degrees that are not in need in that area and the don't want to move

And I mean... that's their fault for picking a career field with no potential jobs. KWIM? I'd love to get a degree in a few areas of studies because they interest me, but in the long run.... it's a stupid idea because I know I'll waste all of that money on getting the degree, and then have no job.

kind of off the subject here..wal mart is not allows the cheapest. People just assume it is. I go to rite aid and CVS. I am pretty sure good ol Sam is rolling in his grave. He would be ashamed of how the workers are treated. Then again most the Wal Marts I have been in the workers are dickeheads. Oh and why the hell is there 25 effing lanes and only 3 are open? Or 1 person working at the customer desk and 15 people in line. ughhh anyways..Wal Mart use to be a good place to work out it sure has gone to hell. Oh and I wouldnt strike, that doesnt pay my bills.

What kind of lala land do you live in? I have a Bachelor's. Up until this year I had a job where I worked every holiday unless I was in the hospital or someone was dead. When you sign up for jobs like that you know what you're getting into. If you're not OK with it, don't take the job. There's plenty of other people who will.

Everyone deserves a livable wage. To work 60 hours a week, never see your family and still not be able to afford bills. It's really smurffy to have to go hungry just so your kids can eat or to have to decide which bill you have to pay late...

The cost of living has shot up tremendously and minimum wage has stayed stagnant. Walmart is making PLENTY to afford 10 bucks an hour for every employee.

People HAVE to work retail on Thanksgiving or Christmas. You say nobody should have to work these holidays.... but once you forget something crucial, you'll be pissed because no stores are open due to your belief that nobody should work those holidays. A lot of people don't have families or do anything on those holidays... so they'd rather get the time and a half pay. I'm opening my store on Thanksgiving... 4am-noon, and I'm EXCITED to get my holiday pay. I'd be pissed if someone took that away from me.


The minimum wage is manageable. If someone plans on working at a non-skill retail store, they should be paid as such. It's their choice to work there... therefore their choice to receive government aid. It's not Walmart's fault. They don't force people to work there.

Yea, but today it's just hard all around. Whether you're working but not rich or you're on welfare....It's just rough.

It's like on one hand you can not work and get on assistance and get frowned upon...or you can take the first job that calls you back ( Like Walmart ) and at least try to do it on your own. I mean, to have a family you need to support and no income coming in......Basically beggars can't be choosers....

I understand it's the person's choice if they want to work for a crappy place. I just wish there wasn't so many crappy places...

Do you know HOW MANY Walmart's there are? If they paid ALL of their employees $10 an hour, they'd have to raise the prices in store in order to compensate for the raises. Which in turn would lose customers because who wants to pay $4 for a gallon of milk when it's $2.50 at Kroger?


You're in dream land, sweetie. Everyone would love to make $10+ an hour, but it doesn't work that way.

Eh, normally people who can't find a job to suit their degrees haven't made themselves flexible. I've found the trick to getting a job is to be pretty well rounded. Not just the degree, you have to be able to offer more. Stability, good references, skills that go beyond the minimum requirements, good interviewing skills, etc. Employers want the total package now, just a degree isn't going to cut it.

If a person is truly worried about the wages -- get hired on and work your ass off to get promotions. Nobody is going to hand you smurf because you need it. Like... who the smurf are you?

A livable wage? These are minimum wage jobs for unskilled workers. It's not meant to support an entire family.
