Umbilical cord..

posted 17th Nov
So my 5 day old newb managed to pee all over his umbilical cord, and now it's wet..What do I do?
I've been looking it up online and some people are saying leave it alone, let it dry. Some are saying clean it with water or alcohol, then let it dry.
I'm clueless.

I would dab it with a q tip with some alcohol and let it dry.

Don't worry mama! One's own urine is sterile to the body so it shouldn't get infected. Just clean it the way you've been doing it and it should be fine  Good luck.

fresh urine is fine. it's clean. just let it air dry. I would wipe around it, but put nothing on the cord stump it's self.

really.. any of them are fine. You could wipe it with alcohol, or just dry it off and leave it alone. either way it'll be fine mama. ((hugs)) there's so much to stress about with a new LO... but no matter what.. the cord will fall off. It'll be fine.

Nobody told me how bad the stump would smell. Lol. That was awful. You should be fine with any option.

my midwife told me i can bath baby just make sure to dry it good after. if you dont want to do that i would still give it a wash with a wipe so it dont get smelly

I wasn't told to keep my LO's umbilical cord dry when he was born. I even asked, and they said there was no need to, as long as you dry it off really good with a Q-tip after his baths. So from day 1, DS has gotten the full bath treatment, and hasn't had any issue with his cord.
