Help with a schedule.

posted 17th Nov
Now, before you go all 'BABIES MAKE THEIR OWN SCHEDULE!!" on me, I get that. And I'm not looking for any structured set time and don't break it bs.

My son is almost 6 months old. By this age my daughter had pretty much set her schedule. Bedtime, wake up, naps, things like that. My son is still super sporatic, no matter what we try to do.

Some days he's going to bed at 7:30 and waking up at 4 am. Others its midnight and sleeping until 8. Then that's making some naps be at 10 am and he won't sleep for the rest of the day, or he's going down at 6 for a nap and is up even later that night. We don't do anything differently on these days and it's really killing me sleep wise.

So, what are some tips to get him on a better schedule? He's the only one getting a decent sleep..whenever he goes to bed, ha. Don't offer CIO, it's not an option.

Thanks!

You need to have his bedtime at a specific time and naps as one as well. Until you are more consitent about it he will continue to do so. DD has always been restless when it comes to sleep but she has had the same bedtime no matter the circumstance.

ETA: Is you don't have a structured schedule or routine the issue is not going to be resolved.

Quoting Lillybutt's momma:" You need to have his bedtime at a specific time and naps as one as well. Until you are more consitent ... [snip!] ... no matter the circumstance. ETA: Is you don't have a structured schedule or routine the issue is not going to be resolved. "

Clearly, that's the point. You're obviously not seeing what I was asking. HOW to get it more set. And my daughter did fine without a 'structured' schedule for the rest of the day. Infants change too much to have their entire day planned out.

My DS is 6 months and he was doing good then these past couple weeks he has gotten way off his schedule by himself, like he was waking up at 4am every morning to eat then.go.back to sleep then wake up at around 7 for the day now he's sleeping till 6 or 7 and its messed nap times up bed time up and made him fussy from.being so off. I've just been going w it and letting him fall asleep whenever he wants. this week I've decided to lay him down for bed at a certain time and naps also. its been hard but he has to get back on a schedule.

Pick a bed time, whatever time he has fallen asleep more than once in the past, and stick with it. Turn all the lights down, turn off the TV, have everyone whisper if possible(so maybe make it like 10 instead of 7 lol). And lay him down wherever you'd like him to sleep. Even if it takes him an hour or 2 to fall asleep in the beginning. Try to keep him awake for 3 hours before bed and give him a long-ass nursing session before bed, or a big ass bottle if you formula feed.
As for naps, I guess do the same thing, pick a time, but if you get the night schedule down set the nap time should just fall into place.
