Random chick took a picture of my kid.

posted 17th Nov
I'm probably just being weird, but this is kind of disturbing me.
Yesterday, I went to the DMV with DH and a friend since we all had something we needed to do there. LO was being the typical two year old, walking around and looking at stuff. I was watching him and happen to notice the girl sitting three chairs away from me points her cell phone at LO. Well, I glanced over at her cell phone screen, see that it's in camera mode, the screen has my son perfectly centered, and she snaps a picture.
She didn't know that I saw her take the picture. She did not ask to take the picture, she did not inform me that she took the picture. I have never met this girl in my life. I kind of felt like...It was really inappropriate. I told my friend that I wanted to ask her to delete the photo, but I got called back before I got the chance and they were gone by the time I got out.
I don't know, I mean I've never taken a picture of a stranger's kid with or without their permission because if I don't know the kid, I don't really want a picture of them.
Am I being weird or is it a little odd that she took a picture of my kid like that?

That is really weird to me. The only time i've ever seen people take pictures of strangers is when they are either doing or wearing something ridiculous. It's kind of creepy in a way that someone took a pic of a 2 year old they don't know. I would have said something.

I kind of sat there for a minute and just watched her, trying to figure out what she was up to. After she took the picture, she fiddled with her phone and I'm assuming she sent the picture to other people. Thing is, I don't know ANYONE in that town. It's a 40 minute drive but I prefer the DMV there because it's not as packed as the one in my city.

It is weird that she did that but she probably just thought your Lo was cute and wanted to show a friend or her hubby. I'm sure her intentions weren't bad but she for sure should have asked.

That's creepy. I'm not sure what I would have done if that happened to me.

That is wierd. When we lived in Honolulu my DH and I were at Costco with my girls and there was this....what appeared to be tourist group of 6-7 asian woman (non english speaking) started pinching my girls thighs and cheeks and snapping photos with the cameras they had around their necks. o_O I mean I know my kids are really chubby but not really tourist attraction chubby.

I honestly wasn't sure what to do. I mean, I WANTED to ask her to delete the picture but if I'd had the chance to ask and she didn't do it, I probably would have overreacted and caused an unnecessary scene because it would have just made the situation weirder.

That happens a lot where I live. But not pinching their thighs o.O that's creepy. And I think taking pictures is just plain rude. They should at least ask.

I probably would have still said no to her taking his picture of she'd asked just simply cause I don't know her, don't know what she plans to do with the picture, etc, but I'd at least appreciated the fact she asked.
I mean, I've seen babies I thought were adorable and made small talk with the parents, the whole "Oh she's so cute, how old is she?" stuff, but I've never wanted to take a picture. I don't know, I just don't think I'd ever want to look at the picture again lol.

LOL I've had a similar encounter with several Asian ladies, most of them that act that way just really, really love kids.
I had an Asian lady walk up to our table at a Chinese restaurant and just shove a plate full of deserts infront of my son and tell him repeatedly "Pick one" and I was sitting there like "OH GOD NO! Not the sugar rush!" ha.
It is weird that they took pictures though, I don't get that.

Yeah...It's what I was thinking but I was double checking to make sure that I wasn't overreacting, which I have a tendency to do when it concerns LO.
I mean, I've never in my life had the urge to take a picture of a stranger's baby, except for once at an Anime Convention because a man, wife, and their baby came dressed as a family on an Anime I used to watch constantly growing up lol, even then though, I didn't get a picture and didn't ask.
