My hair

posted 17th Nov
Is falling out like crazy!!! I can be in the shower or crushing my hair or running my fingers through it or putting it up and I pull out enough hair that you can see what color my hair is. I mean its a good size strand. LO is 4 months could it be from pregnancy?? Anyone else have the problem? What did you do and what can I do to stop it!!! I use Aussie moist shampoo and conditioner because my hair is so dry and I've used that for the last 4 years... I'm not going bald I know that much I'm just losing a lot of hair and its getting all over everything and I don't know how to stop it!!

Postpartum Hair Loss — What It Is

Hair loss after pregnancy is the sudden shedding (sometimes in clumps) that many new mothers experience between three and six months after they give birth.
Postpartum Hair Loss — What Causes It

Normally, the average head loses 100 hairs a day — but not all at once, so you don't notice them. Your pregnancy hormones keep those hairs from falling out (which is why your hair looks as lush as a supermodel's, or is so thick you can barely get a brush through it). But all good things must come to an end, and that includes your awesome new 'do. When those hormones drop back to normal, the extra hairs drop, too.
Postpartum Hair Loss — What You Need to Know

Don't freak: You're not going bald, you're just getting back to normal. If you're breastfeeding, some of your extra hair may hang on to your scalp until you wean or start to supplement with formula or solids. But nursing or not, take comfort in knowing that by the time your baby is ready to blow out the candles on that first birthday cake (and has a full head of hair of his or her own, possibly), your catch-up hair loss will be finished, and your locks should be back to normal, too.
Postpartum Hair Loss — What You Can Do About It

  • Keep your hair healthy by eating well and taking a prenatal vitamin supplement.
  • Be extra-gentle during your shedding season to prevent excess hair loss after pregnancy. Shampoo only when necessary (Ha! As if you had time to shampoo at all!), and use a good conditioner and a wide-toothed comb to minimize tangling. Use scrunchies or barrettes to put hair up, instead of rubber bands — and don't pull hair into tight 'dos.
  • Skip blow-dryers and curling and flat irons if you can (again, as if you had time to use them!), and put off any chemically based treatments (highlights, perms, straightening) until the shedding stops.
  • Talk to your practitioner if your hair loss is excessive. When it's accompanied by other symptoms, hair loss after pregnancy could be a sign of postpartum thyroiditis.

I lost half my hair from a gastric surgery and 5 months of malnutrition..it was coming out in the fistfuls when I would run my fingers through my hair or took a shower   I was taking prenatal to help with that and it finally stopped and started growing back... tons of 3 inch long tufts of hair sprouting from the top of my head...ALL SmUrfING WHITE. lol So I agree, it growing back was pretty bad...but I would break down crying everytime I pulled a fistful out   both ends suck. But the prenatals help the hair grow faster

Did your hair change back to the right color or do you have to die it?? How did you get malnutrition? That sounds horrible...

Nope, all my new hair is old lady hair   I got pissed and dyed almost all of it black LOL Left the front red because I prefer my hair red but I knew the color wouldn't take on my silvery hairs

I had a very rare medical issue and every doctor I saw ignored me when I told them what was wrong so it went undiagnosed so long I was 24 hours from dying when they finally took me seriously, did ONE TEST and then rushed me into the OR.

Oh wow): I'm so sorry!!!! Something like that happened with my dad. He had some weird in his intestines and if it had gotten bad he could have needed surgery or have died. One hospital misdiagnosed him but another one caught it

But yeah I'm so sorry tht happens ): glad you are ok though!!
