They never want to point to something they did, they never suggest that. But it is a documented side effect from the pitocin.

I hope you can get this little guy out. I finally went through the 3 pages of comments before mine and found the issues you are going through. Go for it nothing can hurt at this point only help. You are in my prayers!

You don't sound dumb. Its in a lot of pregnancy books that I have read through all 6 of my pregnancies that made it as far as I am now that castor or could cause bowel cramps the woman mistakes for contractions. Also I have used Castor Oil as a labor inducer for 2 out of 5 live births. My son had no incidence of mecomiun staining or releasing inside but his stools for the first 2 days were extremely runny and cleared meconium out much quicker than my girls did. My daughter on the other hand released her mecomiun in the womb no asperation thank goodness but still this little one won't be an castor oil induction due to the ordeal and everything that went on after her birth.

You do know meconium is a fairly normal thing to happen in birth right? Sometimes it is caused by some sort of induction, and sometimes it just happens.

Yes I do and considering that the only one I had this with was the baby I had used castor oil with twice in a 4 hour period and was closer to the due date than any others I have my own reasons to believe it was due more to her very short term labor than anything else. considering it lasted a total of 45 minutes with extreme contractions that never let up for a break. I think Meconium releasing has more to do with the labor than anything else. But did you know that Castor Oil is also considered the best natural method to relieve constipation? And also because of her personal health problems it wouldn't be the best idea to induce with castor oil because her body is under enough stress as it is.

You are right, labor often can cause the passing of meconium. Castor oil has been used for a long time for many sort of medicinal purposes. The only conclusive danger is dehydration, precautions should be taken to avoid that.

castor oil does make you go to the toilet about a hour after its taken to get rid of the back passage content before bith so the odds of the baby swimming in smurf as you put it does not happen look it up ! i was told by my gp it was safe as baby was ready and it saved me getting induced it did the job for me anyway and i have 4 healthy children !

My water broke while I was sleeping. I have no idea what I was doing, only that I woke up thinking I peed the bed. Until I stood up.

She is clueless. I wasn't "bathing in smurf"either lol. My body had naturally cleaned itself out a couple days before. I don't think I smurf even once after the castor oil. Just saying.

I'm high risk too, so I know how stressful it can be...

I've heard there are three ways to induce labor; eat really spicy food, have sex, and do a lot of walking. And I wouldn't stick anything foreign up there if I were you either. lol

I don't really know how reliable my answer is, but good luck! If they're just going to induce you in a week, I don't think there's any harm in trying to do it yourself. One less thing for them to fuss over at the hospital.
