I'm 13 weeks or so away.

posted 17th Nov
I'm 27 weeks pregnant, and 13 weeks From meeting my baby girl and been asked to start thinking about my birthing plan. I pretty much know what I want. You know. labor to start, hospital epi after dilation., etc., etc., But I see this a lot here, and it strikes me funny. Aside from medical issues... Why would an OB induced before 40 weeks...?

I know people who have requested it due to being uncomfortable but it was only by a few days from their due date other than that it has always been a medical reason if it was any earlier. but i'm sure there are some doctors out there who do it earlier for no reason but it wouldn't be a doctor i would trust at all!

Because people are selfish and impatient.

OBs like to be in control of things. Sometimes, it's just better for them and their schedule so they take advantage of their position as doctor.

No, no, no... that's terrible. I mean I don't want a 10lbs baby but if carrying till 42 weeks does that so be it, that sounds awful. Because of their schedule   ? Really? I like the illusion that my doctor actually cares lol.

I don't get the impatience either, because you're signing up for an entire LIFETIME of being a parent, so what is 2-4 more weeks going to do? I never was in a rush or impatient and my first came at 39w6d, so almost just right 'on time'.

You can refuse it and wait it out and go natural but they won't let you go over 42 weeks. If it's dangerous to your baby on the other hand then i would agree to it but only if it's better for the baby to be out than in.

Of course if there's a true blue medical issue. I'd agree to anything if it's right for baby. I mean the girls I hear being induced as early as 37 weeks just because. And I know past 42 weeks would be dangerous for baby as well. My SO was due on July 4th and in the 80's and where he's from I guess they didn't induce he came out July 26th and almost 11lbs. One girl I know her doc. told her that her baby was expected 10 lbs and they induced her I think 37-38 weeks, the induction didn't work and she had to have a C-section, and the baby was only 7lbs! That's what I'm afraid of. I don't mind going through the discomfort I know it's going to get even worse from here, but like she said it's what we signed up for. So there's no other reason aside from the mother being uncomfortable or the doctor wanting to work around their schedule? That's awful

I am going to be induced at 39 weeks, if I don't go into labor on my own, because of my blood pressure.

See that I get, and you're pretty much full term. I'm not judging anyone, Idk if I may have come across like I was or not. I didn't get why doctors suggest it to patients who don't need it for medical issues. I had a pre-E scare and had to get all of my baby girls things ready, and then found out it was nothing but borderline high blood pressure, so I understand that.. And now I'm being monitored. Scary thought a premie.

Good luck though with the blood pressure and congratz on the baby :3!

I think sometimes the doctors want to do things on their schedule, sometimes it could be a factor of distance to the hospital for those with really short labors. If I wasn't being induced already I would be nervous about going into labor naturally. I only had a 3 hour labor with my first, and I am over an hour from the hospital in good weather. Since he is being born in the winter, I am worried about a snow storm that might slow me down and I might end up delivering on the interstate. Of course that could still happen with me being this close to term and the distance is still an issue. They say the second child comes faster than the first. On one hand I think it would be exciting to do the "rush to the hospital" on the other hand, it would be terrifying to me to have my husband deliver in the car.

The rest I would assume are impatient, or just uncomfortable.

Makes sense. Luckily I live in FL and hurricane season is way far away from my due date and snow storms (THOUGH that would be really cool o.o; ((In FL anyway)) aren't likely. Sounds like you don't just have babies you have baby adventures lol.
