Car seat safety

posted 16th Nov
My 4 yr always pushes her chest clip down. She says he doesn't like it and I try to explain to her that it's dangerous and she needs to keep it there but she wont. Any suggestions?

The only thing you can really do is either, stop the car every time she does it, tell her it's not safe and you're not leaving til she moves it back up.
Or a punishment.
You can try soft toys or books to try to distract her too, but don't do anything to alter the harness or clip/

Now this is what I heard...

Chest clips are meant to break during a wreck anyway and in the UK and other countries, they do not use them because they are deemed unsafe...so I wouldnt think it was as big of deal if she pushes it down for a little while...

Once you don't make a big deal out of it, she will probably be more likely to leave it be.

Foreign seats are designed differently than US seats.
Chest clips HAVE to be used in the US.

My mom would pull over right then and there and they were disciplined when they would mess with their seats.

Everytime she pushes it down, stop and have her move it back up & remind her it needs to stay in the tickle zone to keep her safe. You can even do this on a trip to do something really fun and tell her if the clip stays up the whole ride she can go, if she pushes it down you will not go.

I'm going to go search for some more ideas for you as well.

They are actually designed to hold the straps together so the child isn't ejected through the straps.

If she isn't mature enough to keep the clip up, then she really isn't ready for all the freedom of movement a booster would give her.

It's not that they are unsafe, European regulations state that the child needs to be able to be removed from the seat in one action.
