Getting his tongue tie clipped....

posted 16th Nov
For mamas who have had their baby's tongue tie clipped, what should I expect? DS is 5 months old and getting it done tomorrow. Is it a quick procedure like it would be for a newborn or more complicated? Bleeding, stitches, local anesthesia, all that fun stuff? Will he be in pain for awhile after?
TIA.

It was an outpatient surgery, she was put under for about 10 minutes. She didn't want to nurse or take a bottle afterwards. Had 2-3 stitches and it looked gross then white underneath for a few days. Gave her 1 dose of tylenol the day after and she was fine.

Oh no.   How old was she? When did she nurse again? Did you have to give a bottle? I'm really trying to avoid bottles. How did the anesthesia affect her? Sorry for all the questions. I'm really nervous.

It's not now but it's pretty severe and his pedi says he can have speech problems if I don't get it done.

thats what mine told me and my son speaks just fine.. same with his father which is why i told them i didnt want them to clip it. i figured if it wasnt causing any major problems at the time then it was an unnecessary procedure. the only thing that sucked was we had a very hard time breast feeding, but he got the hang of of the bottle pretty fast and never had issues

She was just over 6 months. She nursed later that night. I offered a bottle of BM, but she didn't want that either. The first little bit after she came to she was agitated and I imagine sore, by the time they sent us home(we were there maybe 2.5 hours, most was spent waiting) she was fine. She slept till we got home, then just wanted to cuddle for awhile, by dinner time she was fine.

my son has a tongue tie, his pedi told me new research has actually proven that tongue tie does not affect likely hood of having speech impairment, that being said she was more than likely speaking of less severe cases as my son is still able to stick his tongue over his gum.

UPDATE: I'm sorry girls for not replying yesterday, my internet only works when it wants to.
Anyway, I hauled both the kids on the train to the city only to have the ENT tell me he won't clip it until he shows signs of a speech problem....but he said it can snap off by itself and if he's breastfeeding fine then he most likely won't have any other issues. So I'm glad he didn't have to go through the procedure and I hope he never has to.
