Never did I say I was perfect. BUT I also know what my child is capable of. As did she. She said herself she was surprised her kid wasn't getting into trouble and still didn't check on her. THAT is where the ignorance comes into play. And no, my kid doesn't spit up, never has been one that spits up. Thanks though   And 10 minutes IS a long time to leave a child alone in a car. And it IS lazy to not just peek in and check on your kid, but to be too absorbed in your own thing to watch after your kid. BIG difference then running outside for a few minutes. If this was something that'd happened quickly, sure. But her baby girl was strangling SCREAMING for help and her mommy for I'm sure multiple minutes, yet her mom didn't even check on her for over 10 minutes. Way different.

Exactly. I can't comprehend why she didn't check on her kid for over 10 minutes. It's just.. I don't know...

There are laws about children and cars for a reason but I'm just glad that nothing is wrong with the little girl.

Some things can't be avoided. Did I say my situation was ideal? No. Did I say there's no chance for risk? No. However I take precautions to keep my child safe, and put him in a safe place. I had my dog before I was even pregnant with my son. I'm not going to get rid of a family member just because we had a baby. There's a BIG difference in leaving you child unattended in a safe location and manner for a few minutes, and ignoring them for over 10 minutes. Simple.

I feel bad for her. I mean can you imagine how she felt screaming for her mommy and needing her, her life depending on it, and knowing she's near by but too busy to even look in on her as she's literally dying.

I'm sure the mother thinks worse of herself than anyone else does. I can't imagine having that kind of guilt. I'm sure she'll always keep her kids right by her side from now on.

If I knew my child was rambunctious in the car, I would never leave her alone. The mom made a really stupid mistake. She should have never left her without checking, plain and simple. 10 minutes in a car is a lot different than 2-3 in a swing. DS is 4 months, I leave him alone for 2-3 a couple times a day to pee, cook, or do laundry...guess I'm irresponsible too

She was standing right next to her car talking. She didnt walk down to the field or back into the school.

I leave my children in the car at points. If i have to pay for gas, or when i run into dunkin to grab coffee. Meh. I also leave chub alone when I walk fathead to school.

I'm not bothered by the being in the car, not at all. I'm bothered by how long she ignored her child when she knew she was one that likes to get into thing and very precocious. My heart just breaks thinking how long that girl could have been strangling, and fighting while her mom, that was there, nearby, didn't even think to look in on her. It's not that hard to take a peak through a window or just look in and say "How you doing?"

To say your kid never spits up and how he wont when you are outside for 5 minutes. Is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Your child has more of a chance, spitting up and choking the rare chance of a child 5 YEARS old at that bein strangled by a seatbelt... Wake up and smell the coffee... How often do you hear of a 5 year old being strangled by a seatbelt? Not as often as you hear babies choking on their own spit up. Get real... You take no precautions for him being safe, you said he lays on the floor, and hes 7 months old while you run down three flights of stairs.

Look people do what the have to do, mistakes happen.. Its life but the fact that you are on here talking about this poor woman like that is ridiculous seeings how you are JUST as ignorant for what you do.

What bugs me the most here is not only that the kid was in the car alone for 10 minutes, but why didn't the mom have the door open? The windows down, so she could see in? Something. The kid was screaming and she couldn't even hear it...

I've left my kids in buckled in their seats in the car, but I always stand right by the car and the door is always open. I don't understand that. Especially knowing that your child is always into things.

And honestly, I'd be more concerned about about a 5 year old than an infant. I've gone to walk my dogs or run the trash out when mine were little. I can't really leave them in the house even just to check the mail now though. They can and will get into things.
