Full lip tie?

posted 16th Nov
Do I need to be concerned about this? It looks like a lip tie if i'm right, and it is attached to the bottom of his gum. Will it resolve on its own or do I need to have a surgery for him? He breastfeeds just fine

Is it on the top lip? I don't know, I wouldn't want to do surgery if it wasn't affecting anything, but I'd have to research it.

My SO, DS and DD all have it. It hasn't caused them any problems, but SO had his cut in the 6th grade because his teeth had such a big gap.

I've heard of a few people who knew it to cause a problem with their child breastfeeding, and a few who say it didn't cause problems at all.

Typically though it is only removed for cosmetic purposes.

It can cause spacing problems. SO had his cut when his adult teeth came in; he had a gap that was an inch wide. When it was cut, his teeth came together and eliminated the need for braces.
I've never heard of it causing any problems other than the spacing between the front teeth, which is just a cosmetic problem. I guess if the person had crowding problems as well, it could make it worse and increase the severity of the crooked teeth.

My daughter had a very thick lip tie. We had it clipped when she had tubes put in her ears, she had a few stitches but the huge gap between her front teeth went away within a few months. It was crazy.
