re: Breastfeeding and vitamins?

My sons pedi gave e vitamin d drops but I took him outside every day anyway so I never gave them to him. She didn't care.

Definitely time to find a new pedi.

I'd run away from that office, lol. My pedi is alright, not perfect but a good doctor and super nice. Everyone in the office is very supportive of my breastfeeding.

This is not true. A simple google search will show that most people in our country (and the western hemisphere in general) are vitamin D deficient, and exposure to the sun is insufficient, especially if you put sunscreen on your children.

Dumbass. I hate drs and rarely listen to them especially about Bfing. Most bf babies are fine without vitamins. If the baby was showing signs of deficiency or if u were deficient then you can worry. Unless they have proof of a deficiency they don't need it. If they did a blood test and there was a lack in something then they could advise the amt. it's stupid to OD your child on a vitamin if they're not lacking.

Most vitamins, (b, c and d) are water soluble and will simply pass in the urine if more is taken than needed. Vitamins A and E are the ones yoh need to be careful about.

It's true that they don't get vitamin D from breastmilk, and if they're not it the sun a lot drops are the only way to get it. (Helps with bone development) My first daughter I didn't know about the drops, the second one I was informed and advised to use them. I didn't use them as often as I was supposed to, but at least a 3 or 4 times a week I gave them to her. Just seemed like a good idea since I tried to keep her out of the sun.

I just said if mom is deficient...and yeah, most are deficient when you sit inside all day. Get outside, it's just that easy.

And I didn't say lather your kid in sunscreen and go outside.

It really only takes about 10 min a day of sun to get Vitamin D into a baby. Also you aren't suppose to use sunscreen until baby is at least six months old so that wouldn't be an issue. I have never used any kind of drops for our breastfed babies, we do sun every day.

You shouldn't put sunscreen on a baby that is less then six months old.
