8yrs old

posted 16th Nov
My daughter is 8, and she is asking for a curling iron, and deodorant for xmas. Should I get them for her? Her best friend curls her own hair everyday for school and my daughter wants to start doing hers too. I told her we have a few extra curling irons she can try, but she is instant that she gets her own. And well deodorant? i dont think she needs it yet, but her bestie is using it so of course she wants it. She also already has minor breakouts, usually around her nose. She asked for face cleaning stuff.

Swear yesterday she was my baby, today she is like a teen!

Would you get your 8yr old this stuff?

My 8 year old is a boy so no curling iron but if he wanted one, I'd get it. It's cute that she cares about her appearance.

He does wear deodorant but he needs it.

I have a 7.5 yr old and I don't trust her specifically with a curling iron. But I'd be willing to get her some foam or even hot curlers. Probably foam though, knowing her

I don't see a problem with deoderant.

I was around that age when I got my first training bra and deodorant and all of that. My mom wouldn't allow me to wear make up, though, until I was about 11 or 12. (I know you didn't mention that but plays in with the curling iron).

What about the face wash? Do you think starting it to young can have a bad affect for when she is older?

She has naturally stringy curly hair, she wants to straighten it and curl the ends of it.

Hot curlers have burnt me worse than a curling iron before!

Cleanliness and attention to personal hygeine couldn't be bad IMO. I know clearasil makes some pretty mild fruity face washes. I don't see a problem with it, I think I'd even be glad. Which reminds me, my daughter loves facial masks (like those packet ones at target- the chocolate one being a fave). Might make good stocking stuffer. Thanks for the idea!

Yeah definitely, just teach her how to use it of course. I NEEDED deodorant when I was 8 so...not much of a Christmas gift   When I was around her age, I got really into myself and my appearance. I use to ask my mom for different body sprays and lip glosses.

As for the face wash, take her to the dermatologist and she will recommend something mild for her. Neutrogena Acne Face wash will probably due but I'm not a pro.

No lol. If she's breaking out, she should address it. Coming from someone who use to battle with bad breakouts on a regular basis, helping her keep them at bay will do wonders for her confidence. Washing your face is part of hygiene. She just needs a special wash due to her skin condition. Nothing wrong with that.

Well I haven't had that experience. I've burned my face and neck and arms more than a few times with an iron. Curlers would be less risky IMO. Foam or twisted ones you sleep in even less so.

I would get them for her. For the curling iron I would set rules like
1)Only mom can curl your hair
2)Can be used mainly for special events
