While the lady's comment was out of line, I usually take my daughter out to the car if she acts up. Yesterday for instance, we had to run to the store to pick up a few things. DD was acting like a butt, so she stayed in the car with DH while I ran in. I know not everyone has that opportunity, but that's just what we do. If its not important for me to be there, I just go until DD has calmed down.

this. She could have easily looked at someone behind the counter, said "I'll be right back", and went and talked her kids down if she NEEDED coffee that damn bad.

This.

I know my kid. I know Sophia can sit in a coffee shop for hours and be fine, and I know that I have to be in & out with Gianna within 10 minutes or she's just going to run around being loud thinking its an indoor playground. And with consideration for others, I leave when/usually before I know it's going to start.

Yup I'm a total bitch. and my kids just run around with no discipline you know me so well. And I did have respect for this woman and found her very pleasant every time I went there. Also this was not a quiet coffee shop this was the starbucks inside Safeway.

I think there is one upstate. I have been to the ones in Arizona and through the states, but don't think ever here..

Closest we have (near me at least) is a DD drive through in the Bronx. No one wants to get out there   LOL

I'll agree that what she said was out of line. I'm pretty sure her manager wouldn't be too happy to hear about it.
I don't know how you handled the situation but if you immediately addressed the problem I can't imagine why anyone would have said anything. If I were in the situation I would have set my child down, got on their level and would have verbally corrected their behavior, if for nothing else to make that a routine and to also show everyone around me that I don't condone or accept that kind of behavior. Sure, kids act out - that's their nature and I don't expect every child to be on their best while out in public but it's really the parents reaction to it I'm looking for.

And sidenote, Keurigs are awesome.

They really do! And mostly, I think it's hilarious. It's like that bit that Louis C.K. does about old people saying whatever they want cause they know they're on their way "out"

Lmfao, true. You also get away with more when you are older because people just blame the smurf you do on being old. Smurf, when I get old I bet I will say some off the wall smurf with no filter either haha.

I think the woman was out of the line. My kids can be loud (oldest has autism, sometimes things get to him) and I always do my best to be respectful of others BUT at the same time, they need to learn how to deal in public.

Our behavioural therapist said that one of the biggest mistakes parents make is accidental rewards. Your kids don't want to be at a coffee shop, so they scream, and you leave. You just taught them that screaming=being able to leave. I would have moved them to the corner or the door, told them that we were staying until we got my coffee and THEN we would leave. For those saying just to leave, it's no different then handing over the candy if the kid keeps screaming for it.
