Bottles??

posted 16th Nov
When did you introduce bottles to your LO while you breastfeeding? I have been EBF for over 3 weeks and I want to start giving him bottles for when we go visit family over the holidays. He took it once and the next time I tried he wanted the boob. Tips?

My son got bottles at like 3 days old because he wouldn't latch. We bought special breastfeeding bottles called breastflow (Walmart and Target both have them) and they taught him to latch and I was able to nurse after that

I use the Tommee Tippie ones and we started giving them to DS around 3 weeks. He took right to it and hadn't gotten confused between me or the bottle. I will say this though, he takes the bottle way easier from my husband than from me.

It really depends on babys preference. My baby right now is 11 weeks. I have been trying for 6 weeks or so to get him to take a bottle. He is EBF and prefers that lol. Seriously I have spent close to 75 dollars trying to find one he likes. I have tried all the top names in the stores to no success. I started googling different bottle most like the breast and found a few not sold in the stores. I finally found one he will latch on to. Lansinoh the breast pad and cream company makes it. It is called "Momma". It looks the most like a breast nipple and feels most like one. It is very short and rounded making it easier to hold him close in to my body as if he is nursing. He is one stubborn boy and still won't always take it. It is the only one I have been able to get him to take at all. So my advice is keep trying and research different bottles until you find one your LO likes. He may just be a boobie baby lol. I went to Diapers.com and just looked at all their bottles. I think they carry everyone out there. Then I just ordered the ones that weren't sold in stores and looked most like the breast. There are quite a few I have never heard of before. Good luck to you Momma, hope you have better luck than I have getting LO to take a bottle. Its nice to have a break here and there.

If DS gets a bottle.. very rare but sometimes mama just needs a break and daddy needs extra bonding time so i keep a supply pumped but breastflow seems to match my nippple size my breast shape so it is absolutly perfect for me

If i remember correctly with my son it was around 2-3 weeks, we used the tommee tippee closer to nature ones for a while but he had issues with a gassy tummy so changed to dr.browns and they were fantastic for him, just trial and error, we got lucky and only tried 2 types but i know some people have to try a few more lol

4-6 weeks is the earliest is what is recommended by LCs and no sooner. The reasoning being; the sooner a bottle is introduced the higher the chance that your little one will get nipple confusion which makes breastfeeding really hard.
If you have to give a bottle try these:

^Its AMAZING. It has a nipple in a nipple so the milk comes out like the breast(mimicking the let down reflux so they don't get impatient when you latch them back on you) and it forces the baby to open his mouth really wide and suck like he would on the breast(reducing pinching when you go to latch him). Plus the nipple isn't creepily long like on bottles lol. It is just a lot closer to the real thing. I had to use em because my son had latching issues for 3 months and they actually helped him latch

Here is a close up of the awesome nipple:

Best bottle ever in my opinion.
